Ventures current production of three one act plays is a great opportunity to take a few risks and give new directors, actors and script writers the opportunity to expand their skills. The cast of Theatrical Threesome Part II are a keen bunch, at varying levels of experience.
Lecrezia Borgia's Little Party written by AJ Talbot and directed by Lucy Marshallsay is an amusing play involving the age old tale of mixed potions and misplaced love. The cast appear quite inexperienced, though very confident. Colin Grace as Baldassare is a standout.
The second of the trilogy, Nobody Famous by DM Larson is terribly scripted, making the play an uphill challenge for directors Lisa Aveyard and Jermaine Toetu. The cast tend to over play the characters, hamming it up to get some fun out of the story. Cameo performances by Luke Wagner and Elizabeth Kirkham are very entertaining.
Going Up written by Valerie Lane and directed by Luke Wagner is the most successful of the three plays. The script is a great concept placing six characters between the gates of heaven and hell with thirty minutes to find out who joins the saints and who will sizzle. The cast appears more experienced and Tom Brachtchford as Charlie is particularly good.
Plenty of enthusiasm has gone into these three plays which are on at Christies Beach until May 12.
