The Spongebob Musical Youth Edition – Ink Pot Arts

The Spongebob Musical Youth Edition – Ink Pot Arts

Ink Pot Arts have gathered together a production team and a cast that have developed this show under the Adelaide Fringe banner for which they must feel very proud. It is hard to imagine a show that could have more colour and enthusiasm than this production. From the opening to the finale the work of the Director, Jen Wards and the Artistic Director, Jo-anne Sarre shine through the well-rehearsed cast. All facets of production such as choreography, lighting, sound. set design and construction were well received by the full house for the opening performance.

It is hard to imagine that the lead character, Spongebob Squarepants could have been portrayed any better than the performance of Edison Love, his fervour and physique allowed his movements to be imagined as being performed under the sea. Added to this was his singing ability and being able to handle any situation with aplomb. One of his lines within the play ‘I am far from being a simple sponge’ sums up his performance.

The large cast of twenty all played their parts to perfection, so it is difficult to mention all individually. One possible standout was Eloise Thurlby as Pearl Krabs, her solo was a crowd stopper with seemingly effortless ease in hitting the high notes. The groups such as the Electric Skates and The Sardines added another layer to the performance.

The wonderful venue at The Living Arts Centre at Waldorf School Mount Barker enabled the audience a clear view of the action except for one scene. The fourth wall was broken when simulating coming out of the sea to deal with the volcano a good deal of the action was unable to be seen by some of the audience. Perhaps a disguised scaffold or ladder on the stage may have sufficed.

Notwithstanding the above comment congratulations to all the cast, crew, volunteers and sponsors for bringing a show that all should be very proud.

Acted and Directed in twenty shows for TOTT’s. Plus one for Stirling Players. Age has caught up so really enjoy doing revues for TASA which is now over sixty productions. Also enjoy singing with the Lobethal Harmony Club. An all-male choir.
