Based on the best-selling book by Cheryl Strayed (“Wild”) and adapted for the stage by Nia Vardalos (“My Big Fat Greek Wedding”), “Tiny Beautiful Things” personifies the questions and answers that ‘Sugar’ published online from 2010- 2012. When the struggling writer was asked to take over the unpaid, anonymous position of advice columnist, Strayed used empathy and her personal experiences to help those seeking guidance for obstacles both large and small.
“Tiny Beautiful Things” is a play about reaching when you are stuck, healing when you are broken and finding the courage to take on the questions which have no answers.
This play contains strong language and sexual references, as well as references to drugs and violence, although none is shown on stage.
This is an Australian premiere.
SUGAR – 35+ year old woman – Actors of all genders are encouraged to apply.
LETTER WRITER #1 – Open audition – Age, Gender and Ethnicity are not inhibitors.
LETTER WRITER #2 – Open audition – Age, Gender and Ethnicity are not inhibitors.
LETTER WRITER #3 – Open audition – Age, Gender and Ethnicity are not inhibitors.
LETTER WRITER #4 – Open audition – Age, Gender and Ethnicity are not inhibitors.
SUGAR should have a larger than life persona. Sugar will not be kept stuck behind a keyboard, she will be engaging and as vibrant, emotional and sharp as her letters.
Actors will be required to inhibit multiple characters with the use of movement, voice and human connection.
Actors with a disability are highly encouraged to audition. However, anyone with a physical disability should be aware the Little Theatre is not equipped for wheelchair access backstage, and the auditorium has only stair access to the stage.
There will be two casts. We would like to offer understudies an opportunity to perform on matinees (Sundays), at the discretion of the director. They will be as prepared as leads.
An American accent may be required. Please attempt a general American accent at the audition.
