The Explorers Club
30 September 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Written By: Nell Benjamin
Creative Team: Director: Emily Currie
London, 1879. The prestigious Explorers Club is in crisis: their acting president wants to admit a woman, and their bartender is terrible. True, this woman is brilliant, beautiful, and has discovered a legendary Lost City, but the decision to let in a woman could shake the very foundations of the British Empire, and how do you make such a decision without a decent drink?
The play, written in 2013, paints a satirical picture of 1880s science and exploration in a farcical setting. Emily’s ‘vision’ for the play is in the tradition of a farce. Extraordinary statements and actions that come thick and fast, played straight for comedy.
The play contains basic choreographed physical movement (not dance) for most characters.
Audience: Aimed at adults, the play is suitable for over 12 yrs and families to attend (PG minimal foul language), comical violence, and alcohol consumption used for slapstick.
