The Boys from Syracuse

17 November 1986

Set in Ancient Greece, it is a comedy of mistaken identities.

Twins, both named Antipholus, and their servants, also twins, with tHE same name Dromio, are seperated from each other and their parents by a shipwreck. One returns to Syracuse while the other goes to Ephesus where he marries Adriana.

Years later Antipholus of Syracuse reaches Ephesus in his search for his brother. The fun begins as the twins are mistaken  for each other by merchants and servants. Adriana believing Antipholus of Syracuse to be her husband, drags him home with her, and locks the Ephesian out. But Antipholus of Syracuse falls in love with Adriana’s sister Luciana, and together they sing one of the finest songs in the show, “this Can’t be Love.”

“The Boys from Syracuse” has not been produced in Adelaide for many years – how easy is it to find two pairs of identical twin brothers who can sing and act? But Mayfair has accepted the challenge using their directing skills of Doris Dodd, who achieved success with “South Pacific”, “Kismet”, “Lola Montez”, and “Showboat”.

A talented cast is led by Chris Richardson and Errol Crouch as the Antipholes twins with Joe DiSario and Luciano Roma as their twin servants. Kristen Hardy is Adriana, Car Young is Luciana and Adrienne Carvell her maid, Luce.
