Metropolis Now

Inspired by ‘RENT!’ and ‘La Boheme’, this new play by Aldo Longobardi with songs from the 1980s and 1990s imagines a dystopian future where AI has ransacked the arts industry, corporate greed has escalated the cost of living, homelessness is at an all-time high, and despite scientific and technological advancements a cure for cancer remains elusive.
As a group of artists and activists face eviction from their dilapidated apartment building, they discover their true power and rebellion is in being authentic and hopeful in a society that would rather perpetuate fear.
This original work devised with a group of young people reflects the enduring capacity art has to challenge, provoke and activate audiences to imagine and create a better future, and the vital importance of community.
