Humble Boy is a bitter-sweet comedy about broken vows, failed hopes and the joys of beekeeping.
All is not well in the Humble hive. Felix Humble is an astrophysicist struggling with his Cambridge research program. Following the sudden death of his father, Felix returns to his middle-class English home and his vain and demanding mother. Over the course of the summer Felix and family must navigate the difficult path to forgiveness and healing.

The original production of Humble Boy premiered at the Royal National Theatre, London, in August 2001 starring Simon Russell Beale and Dame Diana Rigg. The play was the winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn Award 2001 and the Critics’ Circle Best New Play Award 2002.

Roles Available:
FELIX HUMBLE (35-45): A man-child in his mid-30s to 40s with a stutter and shockingly inappropriate taste in clothes. As a theoretical astrophysicist, Felix looks for answers in the stars but discovers that the secrets of the human heart are just as compelling and difficult to fathom.

ROSIE PYE (35-45): Rather plain but radiates an aura of good health and emotional maturity. The daughter of George and former lover of Felix, she has a seven-year-old daughter, Felicity, whose paternity is in question. Blunt and plain-spoken, Rosie tempers her straight talk with an earthy wisdom and compassion.
