BETTY BLUE EYES

BETTY BLUE EYES is a very British musical full of eccentric characters and a vibrant ensemble, plus a deliciously infectious toe-tapping, retro/contemporary score. The result is musical comedy gold! This 2011 Cameron Macintosh musical comedy is based on the film “A Private Function” with music by George Stiles, lyrics by Anthony Drewe, written for the stage by Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman, adapted from Alan Bennett’s original story.
Therry’s 2023 team includes award-winners David Sinclair (director) and Rodney Hvrartin (musical director) with choreographer Linda Lawson.
The roles of Joyce Chilvers, Gilbert Chilvers and Mother Dear have been cast with the actors who performed those roles in our 2022 show: Trish Hart, Jared Frost and Carolyn Adams.
Our show is still looking for some wonderful performers to play quirky village characters aged from 20’s to 60’s.

BETTY BLUE EYES
Set in 1947. Belts are being tightened, and the government is telling the country there’ll be fair shares for all … if they survive Austerity Britain. Meanwhile, local officials feather their own nests by taking more than their fair share. Having won the war, Britain seems to be losing the peace: the country is staggering under rationing, unemployment, and the coldest winter for decades. The only bright spark on the horizon is the impending Royal Wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Some local businessmen plan a party to celebrate the royal nuptials and illegally raise a pig for that occasion. Meanwhile, the local food inspector is determined to stop any activity circumventing food rationing.
SEASON AT THE ARTS THEATRE
7th -11th and 14th -17th June 2023 at 7.30pm.
Matinees first weekend Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.
No performance on Saturday evening, 10th June.
Second weekend matinee is Saturday at 2 pm.
AUDITIONS
Please book a time keeping in mind that choreography auditions will be held in groups, so please allow at least an hour for your audition. Singing and acting auditions will be held individually (not in groups).
Please wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Those who have tap dancing skills, please bring your tap shoes. Not all cast will be required to tap dance. Please prepare a song of your choice for the musical part of your audition – and please bring the sheet music.
Rehearsals will commence on Sunday,19 March from 1-5 pm. From then, rehearsals will be Sundays at that time (except for Easter Sunday and 16 April) and Tuesday and Thursday
evenings from 7-10 pm. There will be no rehearsal on Anzac Day, Monday 25 April.
