And Then There Were None

17 November 2018 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

A night of mystery, manipulation and murder

Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None remains the world’s most read mystery novel, and one of the top ten best selling novels of all time, with over 100 million copies sold since its first publication in 1939. This November, the Adelaide Rep will be bringing this classic tale to the stage, working from a script by the grand dame of crime herself, which contains some deliciously wicked twists and turns exclusive to the theatrical experience!

Ten strangers, with apparently nothing in common, each receive an “invitation” from a sinister blackmailer, compelling them to spend the night in a remote mansion on an island off the coast of Devon. Upon arrival, they hear a recording of their unseen host, accusing each guest of concealing a guilty secret and threatening violent retribution for their sins. The onset of a raging storm ensures that the innocent and guilty alike are completely cut off from contact with the mainland, trapped like rats in a maze devised a diabolical criminal genius, with murder on his mind… and unlike in other Agatha Christie stories, there is no heroic sleuth on hand to stop this deadly game from playing itself out, so all the characters are forced to confront the darkest parts of their own natures in order to stand a chance of survival.

And Then There Were None boasts an eclectic ensemble of Adelaide’s finest amateur thespians, showcasing both established veterans of the stage and emerging new talent. Sharp direction, combined with striking light and sound effects, combine to create a grippingly suspenseful ambience. A nail-biting, edge of the seat night out at the theatre!

Director Adrian Barnes is an award-winning performer, who started his professional career in the UK after training at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. He’s worked professionally worldwide since 1969, is an honorary member of The MEAA, has worked in The West End, in every capital city in Australia, taught at prestigious theatre schools around the world and has acted alongside renowned actors like Cate Blanchette and Richard Roxburgh.
