Synopsis

Join our hero Aladdin on his thrilling quest to outwit the evil magician Abanazer, marry the beautiful Princess Jasmine and earn his fortune; all with a bit of help from the legendary Genie of the Lamp! Giggle at Wishee Washee’s gags, marvel at Widow Twankey’s fabulous frocks and immerse yourself in a story of magic, love and adventure. Featuring toe-tapping numbers, dazzling effects and comedy by the lamp-load, this panto is everything you could wish for!

Cast
Role Gender Stage Age Description
Aladdin M or F 20 – 25 Main lead role. Widow Twankeys son and Wishee Washee’s brother. Helps out in the Chinese laundry. Aladdin is streetwise but goodhearted. Confident and a bit cocky without being annoying or irritating. He also interacts directly with the audience in a few places. Needs to be able to sing and move.
Princess Jasmine F 18 – 25 The female heroine role. Lives in the palace with her overbearing mother. Virtuous and beautiful but certainly not a pushover. Keeps her wits about her. Needs to be able to sing and dance
Widow Twankey M 40 – 60 The dame role played by a male. Aladdin and Wishee Washee’s mother. She runs a chinese laundry. Loud, boisterous, doesn’t suffer fools lightly. Always on the prowl for a new lover. Needs to be confident in interacting directly with the audience and throwing banter. Needs to sing and move.
Wishee Washee M 20 – 30 The audiences friend. Works in the chinese laundry with his brother Aladdin and mother, Widow Twankey. He is overly enthusiastic and energetic and easily builds a rapport with the audience. Needs to sing and move.
Abanazer M 30 – 60 The villain. A conniving and scheming Egyptian magician and sorceror, who has a cohort of demons at his will. He elicits boos and hisses from the audience. Must be confident in interacting directly with the audience and bantering with them. Needs to sing and move.
Spirit of the Ring F 25 – 60 A good sorceress. She is good and kind but has a lot of sass and is more down to earth than a traditional panto sorceress or fairy might be.
PC Ping M or F 20 – 40 One half of a bumbling pair of Policemen. Makes up part of the comic duo. Requires good comic timing and lots of energy. Needs to sing and move
PC Pong M or F 20 – 40 The other half of the bumbling pair of Policemen. Makes up part of the comic duo. Requires good comic timing and lots of energy. Needs to sing and move
Empress F 40 – 60 Princess Jasmines strict and snobby mother, who overacts badly. Rather austere.
Genie of the Lamp M 35 – 50 A loud and brash egotist who thinks he is nothing short of fabulous. Wise cracking and enjoys showing off. Fancies himself quite a bit. Needs to sing and move.
