This Award is named in honour of Matt Byrne, who was well known and respected for taking risks and having insight, faith and trust in individuals (who were often novices) to join him in successfully managing those risks.
The Matt Byrne Award recognises an individual, company or team who has created opportunity and encouraged a company member to seize the opportunity by accepting the challenge of stepping up to a first time role in one or more of the following areas.
*Performer/ principal cast member
*Director, Assistant Director, Musical Director
*Stage Manager
*Choreographer
*Technical Manager ( including set design and costume design)
*FOH Manager
Nominees must
- Demonstrate high standards, dedication and passion as well as outline critical, artistic, social or financial success in the period 1 January to 31 December.
- Not have won the award in the previous year.
- The Matt Byrne Award is not necessarily an annual award. It is awarded when TASA learns of a set of circumstances in which opportunity has been created, generously given, and willingly taken up with exceptional outcomes.
Proposers must
- Be an active Group Member of TASA for at least one year prior to nomination.
Nomination process
- Nominations can be made by any TASA individual or group member, or any member of the TASA Committee. Each nomination will be checked and verified by the TASA President

- Nominations should be based on the period January 1 of the previous year to December 31.
