In “Our Man In Havana” Director DAVE SIMMS has harnessed an enthusiastic stage seasoned cast and delivered a rollicking, energetic and innovative package to an appreciative first night audience.
From a busy back street laneway in downtown Havana characters come and go in frenetic succession. Their focus is the seemingly hapless and confused “Wormold” deftly portrayed by LEE COOK as he is drawn into a web of international spying. No place for a vacuum cleaner salesman! Or is it?
JOSHUA COLDWELL invests clever comic versatility and a titillating touch of burlesque into his range of characters.
BEN TODD struts his stuff as “Captain Segura” and KATE ANOLAK, TUREA BLYTH and TOM FILSELL (more of a bright spark than a standard lamp!) provide a plethora of cameos and are all equally brilliant.
The wandering minstrel, flamenco guitarist MARDUK GAULT provides the perfect musical flavour throughout.
It was obvious the cast were having a great time with rapid entries and exits, scene and costume changes and working together to create some effective stage business with accompanying sound effects. The energy on stage was palpable.
Their fun and involvement were both seductive and infectious, providing a most entertaining evening at the theatre, all due to a talented ensemble delivering individual performances enhanced by clear diction, great timing and first rate pace.
I liked this latest offering from The Stirling Players very much and, I must confess, I loved the demise of the dog! Well done!
