A new script by an inexperienced writer is bound to have its problems, and this does. However it also shows promise, a good idea with some humour and reasonable development. The combination of a new writer (Nathan Giaccio) and inexperienced directors (Giaccio and Luke Wagner) does not give the production a good start, but it elicited laughter from the audience and that is always a good sign.
Portions of the production drag and lack focus, sometimes due to lack of pace, sometimes due to weak spots in the script, but if enthusiasm can carry it through, these young players will succeed.
A good director would have curbed some of the shouting, which ruined a few scenes, and developed some of the characters a little more. Shobhana Nair, as the Goddess Kali shows definite promise, but needed stronger direction. Chad Molyneux was amusing but needed more control, as did Natasha Scherl-Wood as Artemis. Nicole McKay and Aden Shukla, as Erika and Joshua the mortal children of Zeus, do very well and Kyle Hopgood is amusing as Ganymede.
There is mention of cinematography in the program but I saw no sign of effects (other than thunder and lightening) so it is possible there were problems we were not aware of behind the scenes. This is a great effort at attempting something new, hopefully those involved have enjoyed the experience enough to try again.
