NAUGHTY MARIETTA

Written By: Music adapted and arranged by RONALD HANMER from VICTOR HERBERT’s original, Book revised and adapted by PHIL PARK from Rida Johnson Young’s lyrics.
Creative Team: Director – Tegan Muller
Musical Director – John Wilson
Set in 1780s New Orleans, Naughty Marietta, the Contessa d’Altena, flees an arranged marriage by disguising herself as a casquette girl (a young woman sent to New Orleans to marry colonists).
She arrives in New Orleans and meets Captain Richard Warrington, an American frontiersman tasked with capturing the pirate Bras Piqué, who is secretly Étienne Grandet, the son of the corrupt lieutenant governor.
Marietta insists she’ll only marry the man who can complete a melody she heard in a dream – a romantic motif that drives the plot – with the musical inspiration of Victor Herbert…
Musical numbers including “Tramp tramp tramp”, “Zing Zing”, “Falling in Love with Someone” and “Live for Today” are sure to get the toes tapping and bring back some memories for many in our audiences.
