What is the Matter with Mary Jane
Written By: Wendy Harmer and Sancia Robinson
Creative Team: Larry Waller
‘What Is the Matter with Mary Jane’ is a powerful and intimate one-woman play that follows a young woman navigating an eating disorder. Through humour, honesty, and vulnerability, the play explores how pressure, control, silence, and societal expectations around food and body image affect mental and physical health.
For this community production, the original monologue will be reimagined and shared between three actors, allowing Mary Jane’s internal world to be expressed through multiple voices and perspectives. This ensemble approach supports collaboration, shared storytelling, and accessibility, while maintaining the integrity and emotional impact of the work.
The production will be presented as part of a mid-year One-Act Play Festival at the Marion Domain Theatre.
