SUMMARY:Kissing the Witch
DESCRIPTION:“When a boy changes his life\, it’s called an adventure. When a girl does the same\, it’s only a fairy tale.” \nA rich tapestry of passion\, ambition\, and transformation\, ‘Kissing The Witch’ allows women to reclaim the stories and identities that have been used against them for centuries. Five familiar tales – ‘Beauty and the Beast’\, ‘Donkeyskin’\, ‘The Goose Girl’\, ‘The Little Mermaid’\, and an enchanting new story – are seamlessly unspun and rewoven in unexpected ways. Women young and old tell their own stories of love\, lies\, and alliances – all with a determination to seize back the narrative. \n‘Kissing The Witch’ challenges what we think we know of traditional tales of ‘good’ and ‘evil’. It explores the nuance in the fantastical\, and the sensual in the magical; it reclaims the power of the Witch. \n‘Kissing The Witch’ was written by acclaimed Irish author and playwright Emma Donoghue\, best known for her novel ‘Room’.

SUMMARY:The Wonderful World of Dissocia
DESCRIPTION:“I’ve got a life too and it’s out of balance. I’ve got people that I care about – that I love and that love me – and I’m letting them down…” \nThe Wonderful World of Dissocia is an off-the-wall\, at times hilarious\, at times disturbing\, ultimately thought-provoking play\, featuring unique and unforgettable characters and wondrous settings which contrast to a degree rarely seen in the theatre. \nAside from being laugh-out-loud funny\, this play also has an important message to convey regarding mental health. It forces us to confront questions as to the status attributed to people suffering from mental health issues and diagnosed mental illnesses. \nIt tells the story of Lisa\, a young woman battling with a dissociative disorder. In order to regain ‘balance’ in her life\, Lisa must successfully navigate her way through Dissocia\, a fantastic wonderland full of surprises and weird\, wonderful\, and frightening inhabitants\, avoiding misleading double-talkers\, traumatising encounters\, and The Black Dog King who looms like a dark cloud over the otherwise beautiful country. \nAway from Dissocia\, life is very different. Lisa’s boyfriend\, her sister\, and a team of doctors and nurses struggle to keep Lisa away from Dissocia. In Dissocia\, Lisa is the decider of her own fate. Back at home\, she’s not. \nDissocia is a riotous\, wonderful\, wild-ride of a play. It is fun\, funny\, provocative and oftentimes totally strange. As playwright Anthony Neilson said\, ‘If you like Alice in Wonderland but there’s not enough sex and violence in it\, then Dissocia is the show for you.” \n“Have you ever seen a penis bird? Frightful things…” \nCONTENT WARNING:\nThis play is intended for adult audiences. It features some confronting and disturbing themes and strong coarse language.

SUMMARY:The Tempest
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Bronwyn Palmer \n‘Be not afeard; the isle is full of noises’ \nA story of shipwreck and magic\, The Tempest begins on a ship caught in a violent storm with Alonso\, the King of Naples\, on board.  On a nearby island\, the exiled Duke of Milan\, Prospero\, tells his daughter Miranda that he has caused the storm with his magical powers.  Prospero had been banished twelve years earlier when Prospero’s sister\, Antonio – also on the doomed ship – conspired with Alonso to become the Duke instead.  Prospero and Miranda are served by a spirit named Ariel\, and by Caliban\, son of the island’s previous inhabitant\, the witch Sycorax. \nOn Rubbish Island\, castaways from the wreck begin to appear. First is Alonso’s son Ferdinand\, who immediately falls in love with Miranda. Castaways join forces with Caliban to kill Prospero and take over the island. The nobles from the ship are confronted with spectacles including a Harpy\, who convinces Alonso that death is retribution for Prospero’s exile. \n“Hell is empty and all the devils are here.”
