SUMMARY:What is the Matter with Mary Jane
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Wendy Harmer and Sancia Robinson \nCreative Team: Larry Waller \n\n‘What Is the Matter with Mary Jane’ is a powerful and intimate one-woman play that follows a young woman navigating an eating disorder. Through humour\, honesty\, and vulnerability\, the play explores how pressure\, control\, silence\, and societal expectations around food and body image affect mental and physical health.\nFor this community production\, the original monologue will be reimagined and shared between three actors\, allowing Mary Jane’s internal world to be expressed through multiple voices and perspectives. This ensemble approach supports collaboration\, shared storytelling\, and accessibility\, while maintaining the integrity and emotional impact of the work.\nThe production will be presented as part of a mid-year One-Act Play Festival at the Marion Domain Theatre. \n\nInformation Session: \n\nAudition Information: \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:1\n\n\nDate:\n14/03/2026\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n13:00 – 15:00\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Name:\nSancia\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n25\n\n\nRole Information:\nThis play includes themes and references related to:\n• Eating disorders\n• Disordered eating behaviours\n• Body image and societal pressure\n• Mental health distress\n\n\n\n\nMore Information at: https://stjudesplayers.asn.au/whats-on/auditions/\nAuditions will be conducted in a group format. SUMMARY:Breaking The Code
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Hugh Whitemore \nCreative Team: Director: Les Zetlein \n\nAlan Turing (1912-1954) was a brilliant logician\, mathematician and cryptanalyst who is mostly known for his wartime work in which he played a key role in breaking the German Enigma code (among others). However\, there is much more to this complex and conflicted man. Hugh Whitemore’s biographical play moves back and forwards in time\, covering his formative years\, his work at Cambridge University where he developed the idea of a computing machine that could do any task asked of it\, his time at the Government Code and Cipher School at Bletchley Park\, his personal life and loves\, and his fall from grace after the war when he fell foul of the law because of his naivety and inability to lie.\nTuring’s seminal work laid the foundation for today’s computers and artificial intelligence. Breaking the Code explores the human side of his life\, and how he broke the code—in more ways than one. \n\nAudition Information: https://www.trybooking.com/DITHV \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:1\n\n\nDate:\n21/02/2026\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n13:00 – 17:00\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Name:\nChristopher Morcom\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n17\n\n\nRole Information:\nSchool friend of\, and inspiration to\, Alan Turing. SUMMARY:An Enemy of the People
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Adapted from Ibsen’s 1882 masterpiece by Melissa Reeves \nCreative Team: Erik Strauts \n\nDr. Katherine Stockman lives in a tight-knit rural community – she’s woven into the town’s fabric and is viewed as a local hero after advocating for the popular local baths. One day she makes a disturbing discovery: the spa water for which the town is famed is severely polluted. The baths attract visitors and are central to the community’s prosperity\, but this prosperity has been built on poison and the truth must be told. Katherine believes it is her duty to alert the public. However\, this decision quickly backfires. To her horror\, people refuse to believe that there is a problem and argue that the economic well-being of the community must come first. What does she do? Does she fight for the truth if it means the loss of income\, family\, community\, identity? Stockmann’s struggle unfolds as a powerful indictment of the hypocrisy that often surrounds public sentiment.\nThe play is set in Australia\, in a medium sized country town. The time is now. \n\nInformation Session: \n\nAudition Information: https://www.trybooking.com/DIBTE \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:1\n\n\nDate:\n10/01/2026\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n13:00 – 16:00\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Name:\nPetra (Daughter of Dr Katherine Stockman)\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n20\n\n\nRole Information:\nPetra (on 62%). SUMMARY:A Hard God
DESCRIPTION:Peter Kenna’s A Hard God is semi-autobiographical and prompted him to say about this magnificent 1973 Australian play\, ‘In other plays you have to invent stories. Only occasionally do you write out of your veins.’\n\n\nA Hard God is set in Sydney in 1946 and tells the story of the Cassidys\, three working-class Irish-Australian brothers and their families\, struggling to reconcile their faith with the harsh realities of post-war life. Middle brother Dan and his wife Aggie suffered most during the Great Depression\, but now have become the rock on which the rest of the family depends. As each brother struggles to navigate conflict and adversity\, a younger Cassidy\, Joe\, is confronted by the realisation of his deep attraction to his best mate and the crisis of faith this brings. When unexpected tragedy strikes\, the ensuing conflict and upheaval results in circumstances that make for intense family drama\, with events as topical today as in the 1940s.\n\nWith a great cast\, led by Lindsay Dunn as Dan and April Stuart as Aggie\, and directed by Harry Dewar\, this will be an unmissable play. \n\n\nBookings from October 17 at https://www.trybooking.com/CUUAS\n\n\nAlternatively\, call 0436 262 628 or email bookings@stjudesplayers.asn.au
