SUMMARY:THE SUM OF US
DESCRIPTION:Written By: David Stevens \nCreative Team: Galleon Theatre Group is excited to announce auditions for THE SUM OF US – directed by Lesley Reed. \n\nAn award-winning Australian play.\nLater adapted for the screen and starring Jack Thompson and Russell Crowe.\nSynopsis:\nSet in the early 1990s\, The Sum of Us is a hilarious\, yet bittersweet play. Despite its ongoing often laugh-out-loud dialogue\, the underlying pathos makes it an intensely poignant story about family\, hope and acceptance.\nHarry and his gay adult son Jeff still live in the house Jeff grew up in. Their wife and mother died tragically when Jeff was a child. Harry takes an overt interest in Jeff’s ongoing and so far unsuccessful search for Mister Right.\nJeff is excited about new romantic interest\, Greg\, who he has invited home. When Greg arrives\, Jeff alerts him that\, as has happened in the past\, his father Harry may walk in on them at any time with jolly repartee\, a drink or a cuppa. Greg is triggered and confused when experiencing Harry’s love for Jeff and tolerant parental attitude to Jeff’s sexuality. It’s very different to the disappointment and rejection Greg experiences from his own father. As a result\, Jeff’s hopes for a future with Greg appear finished.\nHarry’s own attempt at a new relationship with divorcee Joyce may not end well\, either\, yet the bond between father and son\, fraught as it is at times\, endures through harder times to come.\nReview:\n‘…should be recognised as a significant work in the canon of Australian theatre. It’s a play that deserves to be seen and staged over and over again.’- Out in Perth. \n\nInformation Session: \n\nAudition Information: https://www.galleon.org.au/html/auditions.html \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:1\n\n\nDate:\n30/08/2025\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n13:30 – 16:00\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Name:\nHarry Mitchell\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n60\n\n\nRole Information:\nStage age early 50s-early 60s\nHarry is very ‘domesticated’ and cooks predictable\, mundane meals for Jeff and himself. He is as proud as punch of Jeff and accepting of his sexuality\, to the point of being hilariously intrusive and ever-hopeful when it comes to Jeff’s romantic encounters. Harry has secretly been looking for his own new partner and has met with Joyce through an introduction agency. Later in the narrative Harry is non-verbal following a stroke and is dependent on Jeff’s care\, but clearly still desperately wants his son to find happiness with someone.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:2\n\n\nRole Name:\nJeff\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n20s\n\n\nRole Information:\nStage age early 20s-early 30s\nLoves footy. Stuck in his ways a little like Harry\, but hopeful and optimistic\, even philosophical about relationships. Uncomplicated outwardly but mulls over things a little\, mostly to the audience. Alternately loving to\, embarrassed by and frustrated with his father. Jeff is struggling with his need to find a partner and live life away from Harry\, but is conflicted in this by his fierce love\, loyalty and ultimately\, his need to care for his dad.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:3\n\n\nRole Name:\nGreg\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n20s\n\n\nRole Information:\nStage age 20-30\nGreg is an attractive gay man who Jeff has met in a pub. He is a dreamer who loves forests\, gardens and nature. A little naïve and internally a bit tortured. Before meeting effusive\, welcoming Harry\, Greg hasn’t experienced a different paternal attitude than his own father’s disappointment in him. Harry’s loving acceptance shakes and overwhelms him.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:4\n\n\nRole Name:\nJoyce\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n60\n\n\nRole Information:\nA divorced woman (Stage *age late 40s-60-*depends on age of actor cast as Harry) \nJoyce met Harry through a dating agency and is at last coming back with him to his house. Bubbly and excited at first\, Joyce is already planning décor updates there\, especially to that awful feature wall.\nShe is thrilled all is going romantically and well\, until she finds gay magazines. What has Harry not told her?\n\n\n\n\nMore Information at: www.galleon.org.au\nPlease email Director Lesley Reed at: lesleystage@hotmail.com to register for the GROUP audition. SUMMARY:Of Good Stock
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Kym Clayton \n\n\n\nThe three Stockton sisters (Jess\, Amy and Celia) are witty\, brilliant\, beautiful\, and dysfunctional. When their father\, legendary novelist Mick Stockton died\, he left his three daughters a house in Cape Cod\, control over his books\, and a whole lot of issues. He was a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist who had many affairs\, and their mother died young\, and it’s left them all pretty messed up. It’s Jess’s 41st birthday and she and her husband Fred have invited her younger sisters to their house on Cape Cod to celebrate. It’s an important milestone for Jess: she’s surpassing the age of her mother\, who died from cancer years ago. Amy is joined by her fiancé\, Josh. Celia\, the youngest\, brings Hunter\, her boyfriend. Their reunion ignites passions\, humour\, and wildly unanticipated upheavals. The men struggle to be a part of this elusive family’s legacy. Of Good Stock is a raw\, poignant\, and hilarious look at the fun and dysfunction of that thing we call family. \nReviews\n“Smoothly paced\, occasionally touching\, and … as comforting as a quart of mint chocolate chip ice cream\, eaten straight from the container.”—The New York Times\n“The reunion\, oiled with scotch\, leads to upsetting revelations\, the airing of grievances\, clumsy tendernesses\, profane screams and forgiving ruminations that volley across the stage in a zany\, often very funny cacophony … Ross’s characters are drawn with assurance\, wit and gentle mockery — we definitely have met these people …”—Los Angeles Times\n“Laugh-out-loud funny…relatable and thoroughly entertaining.”—Entertainment Weekly\n“Ross displays a flair for writing sharp\, funny dialogue.” —Hollywood Reporter\n“An engrossing mix of humour and heart. Ross’s three sisters strike a fine balance between the comfortingly recognizable and enchantingly fresh.” —TheaterMania.com. \nRoles: \nAmy – female\, stage age mid-30s – middle sister (271 cues) \nCelia – female\, stage age late-20s\, early 30s – younger sister (370 cues) \nFred – male\, stage age early to mid-40s – Jess’ husband – (363 cues) \nJosh – male\, stage age mid-30s – Amy’s fiancé – (108 cues\, appears in Act 1 only) \nHunter – male\, stage age lat 20s\, early 30s – Celia’s boyfriend (184 cues) \nAudition contact :\nPlease email Director Kym Clayton ackc1@optusnet.com.au to register for the audition. SUMMARY:Hope and Gravity
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Michael Hollinger Creative Team: Director : Kym Clayton \n\nThe action unfolds in nine briskly-paced out-of-sequence scenes that begin inside an elevator\, where we hear the fuzzy details of an elevator accident the night before – an incident that will eventually link the scenes. Each scene functions as a self-contained vignette but is also a single piece of a big puzzle with the play’s characters interacting on one level\, with no idea that their lives intersect on another. Their lives intersect in surprising ways that are both comical and tragic – through love\, sex\, poetry\, dentistry\, phobias\, in offices\, homes\, and in hotel rooms. Jill longs for Steve\, who’s engaged to Barb\, who hooks up with Peter\, who’s already having an affair with Nan\, who’s married to Marty. Meanwhile\, Douglas\, who teaches creative writing to Jill and Steve\, meets Tanya who’s hoping to get pregnant with Hal. By the time Hollinger is done with his inventive\, non-sequential funny play\, he’s provided a narrative arc that the audience delight in piecing together themselves. “…..brilliantly structured and hilariously written…” – Fort Worth Star-Telegram “A satisfying\, crowd-pleasing puzzle play\, with nine scenes in two acts\, but not in chronological order.” – Pittsburgh Post-Gazette “Some of the scenes are laugh-out-loud funny; others are tenderly poignant.” – Pittsburgh Tribune-Review “There’s a thrill in chasing this plot – it’s always tantalizingly ahead of you – and finally nailing it. The thrill extends to witnessing five actors\, some in dual roles\, as they lay out this story that happens in the past\, or sometimes in the future\, yet also in the present.” – WHYY Philadelphia “[It’s] Michael Hollinger at his best: witty banter\, well-turned phrases\, and genuine characters make us laugh; then something unexpectedly wonderful and mysterious lifts us to a new level. Gravity tugs us downward but hope allows us to soar\, as HOPE AND GRAVITY shows.” – BroadStreetReview.com \n\nInformation Session: \n\nAudition Information: \n\n\n\nRepeated Fieldset #:0\n\n\nDate:\n05/06/2022\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n13:30 – 16:00\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nRepeated Fieldset #:0\n\n\nRole Name:\nMarty/Douglas\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n \n\n\nRole Information:\nDual role.
