SUMMARY:The King
DESCRIPTION:THE KING by Jimmy Lyons (Adelaide Fringe 2020) \nRed Phoenix Theatre is thrilled to announce our Adelaide Fringe debut in 2020. \nTHE KING is a hilarious modern day roast of the importance of status and power in everyday life. \nRoger likes to believe he is the King of his domain; then during a harmless stroll through a department store he meets Hank\, a virtuoso BBQ salesman. Hank unscrupulously persuades Roger to ‘make the best purchase’ he will ever make and buy the world’s greatest BBQ\, the ‘King’ grill. \nRoger’s life is turned into a tumultuous grab for the remains of his charred manhood and burnt marriage. \nHow do you convince a man to buy something he doesn’t need? Remind him what it means to be a man. \nThe King is written by Texas-born\, Adelaidean playwright\, Jimmy Lyons. Lyons’ previous play Alter Ego received brilliant reviews in the 2013 Adelaide Fringe and enjoyed a long sold-out run in Los Angeles & New York. \nDirected by Adrian Barnes and starring Michael Eustice\, Sharon Malujlo\, and Nigel Tripodi. \n***WARNING*** The King contains frequent course language and strong sexual references. \nRed Phoenix Theatre is very grateful for the ongoing and amazing support we receive from Holden Street Theatres as their resident theatre company.

SUMMARY:Peter Goers in Best We Forget
DESCRIPTION:Yet another nice show\, particularly for old people\, and the fifth in a trilogy of Holden Street Theatres’ entertainment by Peter Goers. He’s a celebrated performer/raconteur and he’ll appear with special guests and just be himself. His shows are extremely popular and strangely enjoyable.

SUMMARY:Nunsense A-men
DESCRIPTION:Matt Byrne Media religiously presents the SA Premiere of the funny nunny musical Nunsense A-Men at Holden Street Theatres this November. \nDan Goggin’s original Nunsense is an hilarious musical spoof about the misadventures of five nuns from the Little Sisters of Hoboken who have to stage a fundraising concert to help bury 4 of their deceased sisters who died from eating dodgy mushroom soup. \nBut there’s a serious change of habit in this version because all the Nuns are played by men! \nProducer/Director Matt Byrne says Nunsense A-Men has been a huge hit on Broadway. \n“I’ve always loved Nunsense and it’s been a very popular show around Australia\, but it’s never been done in Adelaide by men before – what a change of habit!” Byrne said. \n“Sister Julia’s soup wiped out 52 of the sisters but there wasn’t enough money to bury all the dearly departed\, so four have been stored in the convent freezer! \n“The surviving nuns – ballet-loving Sister Leo\, street-wise Sister Robert Anne\, befuddled Sister Mary Amnesia\, Reverend Mother Sister Mary Regina\, and Mistress of the Novices Sister Mary Hubert – sing\, tap dance and pray for a miracle while celebrating convent life and raising funds to bury the final four deceased sisters!” \nByrne said “think of it as Mrs. Doubtfire enters the Convent\, and we play it straight.” \n“I was taught by Nuns at the Good Samaritan convent in Gawler and most of them had male names like Sister Vincent and Mother Sylvester – they were named after Saints\,” he said. \n“Nuns are really gender neutral but having men playing them gives lines like ‘The guys in the old neighbourhood still can’t believe I became a nun!’ a whole new meaning!” \nThe MBM production features David Gauci as Sister Mary Regina\, Chris Stansfield as Sister Robert Anne\, Jayke Melling as Sister Mary Leo\, Ron Abelita as Sr. Mary Amnesia and Matt Byrne as Sister Mary Hubert. \nByrne will direct and design the show\, with Ben Saunders as Musical Director and Rose Vallen as Choreographer. \nNunsense A-Men runs at the Holden Street Theatres at 34 Holden Street\, Hindmarsh from November 7-9\, 13-14 & 16\, 21-23 and 28-30 at 8 p.m. & November 16\, 23 & 30 at 2 p.m. Admission is Adults $40 and Concessions $35 with Group Concessions $38/$33 for 10 or more.
