SUMMARY:Once Upon a Crime PLUS The Case of Alex Hansen
DESCRIPTION:Once Upon a Crime by Flip Kobler & Cindy Marcus (Juniors – aged 10+) \nWill justice be served in this hilarious fairy-tale courtroom play packed with characters we all know and love?  The audience serves as the jury and determines how the play ends!  Goldilocks is the defendant\, on trial for breaking and entering. Is she guilty or innocent?  With multiple endings to cover each possible outcome\, the audience gets to decide her ultimate fate. \nPLUS \nThe Case of Alex Hansen by Alan Haehnel (Seniors – aged 14+ approximately) \nAlex Hansen awakes to find himself on trial for his life. His legal representation is terrible; he’s already been deemed guilty; the courtroom proceedings are chaotic to the point of dark comedy. All seems lost\, except when Alex gets the momentary sense that someone\, somewhere\, is advocating for him. In the play’s surprising climax\, Alex experiences a profound and moving redemption \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:The Laramie Project
DESCRIPTION:The Laramie Project is one of the most-performed theatre pieces in America and has become a modern classic. At Red Phoenix Theatre\, we were amazed to discover that in South Australia this extraordinary play has never been performed outside of school and university productions. We are thrilled to be the first theatre company in Adelaide to share this powerful and compelling theatrical experience. \nOn October 7\, 1998\, a young gay man was discovered bound to a fence outside Laramie\, Wyoming\, savagely beaten and left to die in an act of brutality and hate that shocked the nation. Matthew Shepard’s death became a national symbol of intolerance\, but for the people of the town\, the event was deeply personal. In the aftermath\, Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theatre Project went to Laramie and conducted more than 200 interviews with its citizens. From the transcripts of those interviews\, the playwrights constructed an extraordinary chronicle of life in the town after the murder. \nDirected by Brant Eustice and featuring an outstanding cast including Samuel Creighton\, Cheryl Douglas\, Chris Gun\, Matt Houston\, Nick Kennett\, Jasmine Leech\, Sharon Malujlo\, Nadia Talotta\, Tom Tassone and Alicia Zorkovic.

SUMMARY:School of Sharks & Property Rites
DESCRIPTION:Property Rites by Alan Haehnel \nKyle Macmanus has invested millions in a high-tech work of art — fifteen human-figure sculptures programmed to perform thousands of movements\, monologues\, dialogues\, and more. \nBut just when Kyle is about to sell the sculpture\, it malfunctions; the figures are alive. As each one struggles to achieve autonomy\, they begin a fatal race against their desperate owner’s destructive plan. \nPLUS \nSchool of Sharks by Jessica Bellamy \nBea is scared of everything – sharks\, needles\, and her beleaguered seaside town crumbling into the ocean. Most fearful\, to Bea\, is the idea of making a best friend: showing your true\, vulnerable\, terrified self to another human being. \nSuddenly\, a shiver of sharks\, desperate to save their own souls\, presents a predicament actually worth fretting about. Might a real catastrophe prompt Bea to show her classmates just how capable she really is? \nSchool of Sharks is a comedic\, eco-conscious work for young people that explores mental health\, climate change\, friendship\, and our relationship to marine animals.

Might a real catastrophe prompt Bea to show her classmates just how capable she really is? \nSchool of Sharks is a comedic\, eco-conscious work for young people that explores mental health\, climate change\, friendship\, and our relationship to marine animals.

SUMMARY:Blue Stockings by Jessica Swale
DESCRIPTION:Cambridge 1896\, and Girton College is home to the country’s first female students. Blue Stockings is the empowering and surprising story of four young women fighting for their right to a university education in a world that assumed women belonged at home. \nA gloriously moving\, comical and eye-opening story of four young women fighting for education and self-determination against the larger backdrop of women’s suffrage. This year’s intake of new women at Girton College face economic difficulty\, the distractions of men and radical politics\, and the jaw-dropping prejudice that blights every aspect of academic life. Meanwhile\, there looms the prospect of a controversial vote to decide: should these ‘blue stockings’ be allowed to graduate? The play begins with text from an actual speech by ‘real life’ Dr Maudsley who warns his audience that education for women is a dangerous idea. He argues that women’s lives should be determined by their biological and reproductive functions\, and therefore attending university is likely to cause them serious harm. \nFirst produced at Shakespeare’s Globe in 2013 it was a sell-out success. Based on feedback we’ve received so far\, we fully expect this to also be a sell-out season. So don’t miss out. \nDirected by Libby Drake and featuring a wonderful cast including Kate Anolak\, Laura Antoniazzi\, Jackson Barnard\, Kyla Booth\, Matt Chapman\, Bart Csorba\, Brant Eustice\, James Fazzalari\, Lucy Johnson\, Rebecca Kemp\, Jasmine Leech\, David Lockwood\, Tony Sampson\, Sebastien Skubala\, Tom Tassone\, Kate van der Horst and Rosie Williams.
