SUMMARY:Lilac Time
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE:  New venue and new start time for evening performances \nThe South Australian Light Opera Society is delighted to present our latest operetta\, Lilac Time\, at the Domain Theatre in the Marion Cultural Centre.  Because our usual venue is undergoing repairs\, we have had to change to a new venue and change the dates of our shows for this year.  We will also be changing the starting time for our evening performances to 7:30 pm\, meaning an earlier night for everyone.  Matinees will remain at 2:00 pm. \nLilac Time is set in Vienna in 1820 and is based loosely on the life of composer Franz Schubert\, played by Andrew McKinnon.  Schubert and his playboy friend\, Baron Schober (Frikkie Jacobs) are vying for the attention of Mitzi (Katrin Treloar)\, the youngest daughter of glassmaker\, Otto Zell (David Roberts)\, and his wife (Bronwyn Calvett). \nSchubert’s friends\, Kuppell (Andrew Winter)\, Schwind (Peter Muller) and Vogl (Christian Pollnitz) enjoy the fine Vienna weather and food at every opportunity.  Meanwhile\, Mitzi’s sisters\, Fritzi (Kathy Cilento) and Litzi (Carmine Clarke) are keen to marry their boyfriends\, Binder (Bob Daniel) and Brun (Phil Rodda).  Complications follow with the arrival of temperamental prima donna\, Taliani (Kendall Geisler)\, at a party to celebrate the ‘double wedding\,’ out to catch her philandering paramour\, Schober. \nBeautiful music written by Schubert himself has been adapted for our enjoyment to such songs as Hark\, Hark the Lark\, A Song to Remember\, Jolly Good Fellows and Lilac Time in this entertaining operetta.  Costumes of the period complete the scene as the story evolves in old Vienna. \nLilac Time is Directed by Pam Tucker with Musical Direction by Helen Loveday. \nFurther information is available from Pam Tucker at 8294 6582

SUMMARY:OF GOOD STOCK
DESCRIPTION:Synopsis of this South Australian premiere “dramedy” :\nThe three Stockton sisters (Jess\, Amy and Celia) are witty\, brilliant\, beautiful\, and dysfunctional. When their father\, legendary novelist Mick Stockton died\, he left his three daughters a house in Cape Cod\, control over his books\, and a whole lot of issues. He was a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist who had many affairs\, and their mother died young\, and it’s left them all pretty messed up. It’s Jess’s 41st birthday and she and her husband Fred have invited her younger sisters to their house on Cape Cod to celebrate. It’s an important milestone for Jess: she’s surpassing the age of her mother\, who died from cancer years ago. Amy is joined by her fiancé\, Josh. Celia\, the youngest\, brings Hunter\, her boyfriend. Their reunion ignites passions\, humour\, and wildly unanticipated upheavals. The men struggle to be a part of this elusive family’s legacy. Of Good Stock is a raw\, poignant\, and hilarious look at the fun and dysfunction of that thing we call family.

SUMMARY:Grow Up\, Grandad
DESCRIPTION:Poppy is eleven years old and has “attitude”. When she finds herself living with her cantankerous grandfather\, a man she neither likes nor loves\, all hell breaks loose. Grow up Grandad is an inter-generational bitter-sweet comedy that deals with love and loss\, hope and sadness as the relationship between Poppy and her Grandad is first thrown together and eventually torn apart.\n“The play is dramatic\, painful\, provocative and often hugely funny. It is also very human which much theatre is not. Steel writes crisp\, sharp dialogue\, both tickling our funny bone and engaging our mental processes.” – British Theatre Guide \nWritten by  : Gordon Steel\nDirected by : Warren McKenzie

SUMMARY:Hope and Gravity
DESCRIPTION:Galleon Theatre Group presents the South Australian premiere of this clever play by Michael Hollinger. Directed by Kym Clayton and starring Dora Stamos\, John Koch\, Mari Nield\, Nathan Brown and Mark Drury. \nSYNOPSIS \nThe action unfolds in nine briskly-paced out-of-sequence scenes that begin inside an elevator\, where we hear the fuzzy details of an elevator accident the night before – an incident that will eventually link the scenes. Each scene functions as a self-contained vignette but is also a single piece of a big puzzle with the play’s characters interacting on one level\, with no idea that their lives intersect on another. Their lives intersect in surprising ways that are both comical and tragic – through love\, sex\, poetry\, dentistry\, phobias\, in offices\, homes\, and in hotel rooms. Jill longs for Steve\, who’s engaged to Barb\, who hooks up with Peter\, who’s already having an affair with Nan\, who’s married to Marty. Meanwhile\, Douglas\, who teaches creative writing to Jill and Steve\, meets Tanya who’s hoping to get pregnant with Hal. By the time Hollinger is done with his inventive\, non-sequential funny play\, he’s provided a narrative arc that the audience delight in piecing together themselves. \nREVIEWS \n“…brilliantly structured and hilariously written…” – Fort Worth Star-Telegram\n“A satisfying\, crowd-pleasing puzzle play\, with nine scenes in two acts\, but not in chronological order.” – Pittsburgh Post-Gazette\n“Some of the scenes are laugh-out-loud funny; others are tenderly poignant.” – Pittsburgh Tribune-Review\n“There’s a thrill in chasing this plot – it’s always tantalizingly ahead of you – and finally nailing it. The thrill extends to witnessing five actors\, some in dual roles\, as they lay out this story that happens in the past\, or sometimes in the future\, yet also in the present.” – WHYY Philadelphia\n[It’s] Michael Hollinger at his best: witty banter\, well-turned phrases\, and genuine characters make us laugh; then something unexpectedly wonderful and mysterious lifts us to a new level. Gravity tugs us downward but hope allows us to soar\, as HOPE AND GRAVITY shows.” – BroadStreetReview.com

SUMMARY:A LOVE AFFAIR
DESCRIPTION:A comedy about the passing of time and the meaning of true love.\nCan financial reversals ruin or even reinforce a marriage? What if you could talk to your younger self or\, indeed\, talk to your older self\, about what’s ahead or behind you on the rollercoaster of marriage?\nIt’s the early 1990s and like a lot of people of the time\, Alice and Jimmy Diamond have had a downward turn in their finances\, forcing them to move into a cramped condo. As they clear out the attic of their Malibu home they relive their marriage of 38 years. Their younger selves are often present\, allowing for poignant\, brutally honest and amusing insights into decades of love\, pain and laughter…with a sexy sprinkle of spice. Award-winning play.\n“Terrific. An illuminating look at a long-term marital relationship” – Hollywood Reporter.
