SUMMARY:RADIUM GIRLS
DESCRIPTION:Galleon Theatre Group presents the South Australian premiere of this moving play.\nIn 1926\, radium was a miracle cure\, Madame Curie an international celebrity\, and luminous watches the latest rage—until the girls who painted them began to fall ill with a mysterious disease. Inspired by a true story\, Radium Girls traces the efforts of Grace Fryer\, a dial painter\, as she fights for her day in court.\nHer chief adversary is her former employer\, Arthur Roeder\, an idealistic man who cannot bring himself to believe that the same element that shrinks tumours could have anything to do with the terrifying rash of illnesses among his employees. As the case goes on\, however\, Grace finds herself battling not just with the U.S. Radium Corporation\, but with her own family and friends\, who fear that her campaign for justice will backfire.\nWritten with warmth and humour\, Radium Girls is a fast-moving\, highly theatrical ensemble piece for 9 actors\, who play more than 30 parts—friends\, co-workers\, lovers\, relatives\, attorneys\, scientists\, consumer advocates\, and myriad interested bystanders.

SUMMARY:2025 One Act Play Festival
DESCRIPTION:Three one-act plays presented by Galleon Theatre Group\, Deadset Theatre and St Judes Players… \n\nGalleon Theatre’s entry\, directed once again by Andrew Clark—nominated for his previous festival work (The Duck Variations in 2023 and The Last Act is a Solo in 2024)— Where Are You Going\, Hollis Jay? is a charming\, funny look at first love.\n\n\nHollis and Ellie are uni students who want to take their friendship further… but neither knows how to say it. The twist? We hear all their inner thoughts\, making for some beautifully awkward and hilarious moments!\n\n\nStarring Aled Proeve and Veronika Wlodarczyk\, with sound design by Warren McKenzie\, this one’s full of heart and humour. Don’t miss it!\n\n\nDeadset’s contribution is a gritty drama\, Ravaged\, based on the true stories of the Black Saturday Bushfires in Victoria\, 2009.\n\n\n\n\n\nThe cast for See if I Care\, St Jude’s Players‘ include Deborah Walsh\, Rhonda Grill\, Allison Scharber\, Kaila Barton and Vicky Horwood. Written by Cherry Vooght and directed by Norm Caddick\, it’s the story of two ordinary elderly women bound together in an unsentimental\, wearing relationship in which they talk in snatches\, think aloud and bicker without rancour. They depend on this time because it makes life bearable. \nA poignant story full of pathos\, memories and incidental chat; a beautiful tale.

SUMMARY:Wrong Turn at Lungfish
DESCRIPTION:Synopsis\nSet in a New York City hospital\, Wrong Turn at Lungfish is the story of Peter Ravenswaal\, a blind\, bitter and widowed college professor\, and his encounter with Anita\, a saucy\, street wise young woman who volunteers to read to him in the hospital. He’s irascible and ill-mannered\, she’s uneducated but resilient; she’s a superstitious Catholic\, he’s a supercilious Protestant.\nHe’s a widower facing death alone\, she’s the mistreated lover of a low-rent mob enforcer named Dominic. By the end of the play\, the clash of intellect and wit takes the two from animosity and fear to friendship and understanding.\nBy the way\, “lungfish” refers to a primitive fish species\, representing a metaphor for a point in evolution where humans could have taken a different path\, potentially without developing such complex brains. \nWritten by : Garry Marshall & Lowell Ganz\nDirected by : Rosie Aust

SUMMARY:The Sorcerer
DESCRIPTION:by Gilbert & Sullivan \nDirected by Bronwyn Calvett\nMD John Wilson \nFIVE SHOWS ONLY ! \n‘The Sorcerer’ is the tale of how with the best of intentions Alexis\, an English aristocrat in the village of Ploverleigh\, through the use of a love potion from an old firm of London magicians\, J. Wells & Co.\, Family Sorcerers\, gets all sorts of unlikely people to fall madly in love with one another.\nUnfortunately for Alexis\, this includes his fiancée\, Aline\, who falls for the elderly vicar Dr. Daly. Chaos ensues in the village\, and after many typical Gilbert and Sullivan style comic twists and turns all is eventually happily resolved.\nWell … almost ! \n‘The Sorcerer’ made its debut in 1877 and was the first Gilbert and Sullivan collaboration in which the two had complete control of the production. It was highly successful for its time\, which encouraged them to continue working together and expand the possibilities of satiric operetta. ‘The Sorcerer’ introduced such well known Gilbert and Sullivan trademarks as the comic duet\, the patter song\, the contrapuntal double chorus\, the tenor and soprano love duet and the soprano showpiece aria that we see in other shows to follow.\nThe Sorcerer also introduced W. S. Gilbert’s passion for satirizing the excessive focus of the English on class differences with a plot that turns the entire social order upside down.
