SUMMARY:Low Pay Don't Pay
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Dario Fo \nCreative Team: Director: Larry Waller \n\nThis production reimagines Dario Fo’s Can’t Pay? Won’t Pay! as a fast\, funny\, political\, community-driven piece of popular theatre that speaks directly to a 2026 Australian audience experiencing the pressures of rising costs\, economic strain\, and social inequity. While the play is set in Italy\, our version is modern South Australia\, and although comic and chaotic\, it remains anchored in real human struggle. The humour emerges from truthful desperation\, not caricature. \nThis is a show about people trying to survive — and laughing in order not to cry.\nLow Pay Don’t Pay is a bold\, joyful\, and sharply political ensemble comedy that places actors\, audience\, and action in constant relationship. This immersive production celebrates the play’s greatest strengths: its relentless physicality\, rapid-fire farce\, and deeply human heart. Performed in the round\, the audience becomes part of the pressure cooker. There is nowhere to hide. \nOur vision is to create a piece of theatre that is fierce\, funny and alive. If you are committed to having fun\, working hard and holding a mirror up to present day Australia and exploring / improvising / workshopping theatre\, this is a production for you! \n\nInformation Session: 14/02/2026\nBlackwood Memorial Hall \n\nAudition Information: \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:1\n\n\nDate:\n28/02/2026\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n13:00 – 15:30\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Name:\nEnsemble (16 sought)\n\n\nGender:\nUndefined\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nWe are seeking 16 Ensemble members for this production. Leads will be shared. The production will be dual cast\, with A and B casts rotating performances to support performer wellbeing and ensure continuity across the season.\n\n\n\n\nMore Information at: www.Blackwoodplayersinc.com\nPlease note\, the Audition process for Low Pay Don’t Pay is in two parts: A Commedia dell’Arte Workshop run by leading Commedia expert Dr Corrina Di Niro.\nDate: Saturday 14 February\nVenue: Blackwood Memorial Hall (21 Coromandel Parade\, Blackwood)\nTime: 12noon-3pm \nThe Workshop will feed into the formal audition.\nDate: Saturday 28 February\nVenue: Blackwood Memorial Hall (21 Coromandel Parade\, Blackwood).\nTime: 1pm-3.30pm \nWe encourage people to come to both. SUMMARY:Maytide's It Is Well with My Soul
DESCRIPTION:This beautiful tale of tragedy and faith is based on the true story of Anna and Horatio Spafford. It follows Anna’s journey from her Norwegian roots to 19th-century Chicago and later Jerusalem\, capturing the couple’s faith and resilience after losing their four daughters in the S.S. Ville du Havre shipwreck. The narrative explores themes of grief\, hope\, redemption\, and spiritual transformation\, brought to life through original music\, heartfelt performances\, and rich historical context. \nThe famous hymn “It Is Well with My Soul\,” written by Horatio Spafford\, has inspired our stage musical\, and we are bringing honest portrayals of unimaginable loss\, and enduring faith to the 2026 Fringe season. \nWritten by D. SUMMARY:Commedia Dell'Arte / Comedy in Theatre Workshop (for Low Pay Don't Pay)
DESCRIPTION:Comedy in Theatre: Commedia dell’Arte Workshop \nThe Audition process for Blackwood Players’ November 2026 production of Dario Fo’s Low Pay Don’t Pay kicks off with this workshop\, led by Commedia dell’Arte expert\, Dr Corrina Di Niro.\nDate: Saturday 14 February 2026\nTime: 12:00–3:00pm\nLocation: Blackwood Memorial Hall (21 Coromandel Parade\, Blackwood) \n About the Workshop \nThis practical and high-energy workshop introduces actors to Commedia dell’Arte\, a foundational comic form that continues to shape contemporary theatre and performance comedy. The workshop is designed specifically for performers interested in being involved in a Blackwood Players’ production scheduled for November 2026. \nLed by Corrina Di Niro\, the workshop draws directly on her current creative and teaching practice\, including material from her newly released book\, Commedia dell’Arte Reimagined: Contemporary Practice and Pedagogy for a New Generation (launching February 2026). \nThe workshop will feed directly into the development and casting of the November production\, Low Pay Don’t Pay by Dario Fo\, directed by Larry Waller\, an experienced theatre director known for ensemble-led\, physically driven productions and a strong focus on actor process and collaboration. \nParticipants will explore Commedia dell’Arte as a living\, contemporary form—one that is playful\, embodied\, and responsive to modern performers and audiences. \nParticipants will explore: \n\nPhysical comedy and expressive movement\nArchetypal characters and comic status\nRhythm\, timing\, and ensemble play\nImprovisation techniques that support bold\, playful character choices\n\nThe workshop functions as both a skills-based learning experience and an early development and exploration space for actors considering involvement in the upcoming production. It offers insight into the ensemble approach\, performance style\, and creative expectations that will inform rehearsals later in the year. \nAbout Corrina Di Niro\nCorrina Di Niro is a theatre-maker\, performer\, and facilitator with extensive experience in physical theatre\, comedy\, and ensemble-based practice. Her work combines classical Commedia dell’Arte techniques with contemporary performance-making and pedagogy. Corrina is known for creating inclusive\, energising workshop environments that balance technical discipline with playfulness\, supporting performers to take creative risks while strengthening ensemble awareness and comic precision. \nThe workshop leads into our formal auditions. \n Low Pay Don’t Pay: Auditions \nDate: Saturday 28 February \nTime: 1pm-3.30pm \nLocation: Blackwood Memorial Hall \n We invite anyone who’d like to explore Commedia dell’Arte and find out more about Low Pay Don’t Pay\, to come along to the Workshop\, then attend Auditions on 28 February. However\, we understand life gets busy\, hence we also welcome enquiries about participating in one or the other or a 1:1 conversation about your interest in getting involved. \nTo register interest or find out more\, contact Larry via larrywaller1@icloud.com or 0401530628.

SUMMARY:The Visit – Blackwood Players
DESCRIPTION:The Visit is a powerful and unsettling classic by Friedrich Dürrenmatt that explores morality\, justice and how far a town will go for riches. When the fabulously wealthy Claire Zachanassian sweeps back into her poor hometown\, the locals welcome her with open arms—until she makes them an outrageous offer. She is prepared to give her hometown millions—but only in exchange for what she calls justice. What follows is a wickedly clever mix of comedy\, suspense\, and social satire\, as the town’s morals slowly bend under the weight of temptation. SUMMARY:Comic Potential
DESCRIPTION:Alan Ayckbourn’s brilliant comedy about AI and androids taking the place of humans in a community television soap opera. Highly regarded film director\, Chandler Tate\, has fallen on hard times and is now directing soap operas and what’s worse\, the actors are actually non-human ‘actoids’. While filming\, an actoid\, JC -F133\, mispronounces words. What is interesting is that another actoid laughed and it was not meant to because it was not programmed to do so.\nAn aspiring young writer is fascinated by this actoid and sets about creating a new soap opera based around her. There are those in the company that want her melted down and others who see potential within her.\nAI and humans losing their jobs to machines is on the news everyday. “Comic Potential” is very funny\, very entertaining and thought-provoking. A guaranteed great night out.

SUMMARY:The Government Inspector
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Nikolai Gogol\, Adapted by Terri Brabon OAM \nCreative Team: Director\, Greg Elliott \n\nThe Government Inspector is a very recent Australian adaptation by Terri Brabon OAM\, of a Nikolai Gogol Russian play. It is set in an Australian outback town and the public officials are all totally corrupt. The “Gov” of the town (a former real estate man – who made his money from some very shonky deals) gets wind of the fact that a government official is coming to the town – incognito – to audit the town’s finances and to trace missing government money. At the same time a vagabond is discovered in the local hotel complaining about the service at the hotel and the quality of the food and refusing to pay his bill. An hilarious case of mistaken identity ensues\, with the vagabond assumed to be the Government Inspector and offered countless bribes to ‘keep him sweet’. The play satirises corruption and draws on some modern day parallels. This adaptation was performed by TheatreiNQ in Queensland\, to rave reviews. \n\nInformation Session: \n\nAudition Information: \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:0\n\n\nDate:\n05/04/2025\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n13:00 – 18:00\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:0\n\n\nRole Name:\n“THE GOV” BARRY BARRYMORE\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nCorrupt Property Developer.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Name:\nAMOS FIODORIVICH\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nCorrupt Mayor.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:2\n\n\nRole Name:\nLUCINDA BINDER\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nCorrupt Town Planner.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:3\n\n\nRole Name:\nARTIE PHELAN\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nCorrupt Councillor.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:4\n\n\nRole Name:\nWARREN DOBBS\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nCorrupt CEO of Local Council.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:5\n\n\nRole Name:\nLAUREN DOBBS\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nWife of Warren\, corrupt local business identity.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:6\n\n\nRole Name:\nANNA BARRYMORE\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nAmbitious Socialite Wife of “The Gov”.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:7\n\n\nRole Name:\nMARYA BARRYMORE\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nSpoilt and brainless daughter of Barry & Anna.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:8\n\n\nRole Name:\nMISHKA\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nSelf-serving servant of Barry & Anna.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:9\n\n\nRole Name:\nALEX BRAGG\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nSpoilt silver spooner used to living off daddy.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:10\n\n\nRole Name:\nJOSIE\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nProstitute from an even smaller town close by.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:11\n\n\nRole Name:\nSTAGEHANDS – The Storytellers\, The Narrators\, The Watch Dogs.\n\n\nGender:\nUndefined\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nThe Narrations are read by a collection of actors playing “Stagehands” who act as a kind of Greek chorus ] . SUMMARY:Comic Potential
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Alan Ayckbourn \nCreative Team: Directed by Greg Elliott \n\nIn the near future\, former film maker Chandler ‘Chance’ Tate is directing a banal television soap. Actoids have replaced human actors and one\, Jacie\, appears to have a glitch as she keeps breaking into laughter. Filming is interrupted by high powered executive Carla Pepperbloom and the TV magnate Lester Trainsmith’s nephew Adam. Adam is a writer\, a dying breed\, and idolizes the work of Chance. When Adam is left in the studio\, he runs an old Busker movie and Jacie begins to laugh. Adam begins to teach her the basics of comedy leading to Jacie doing a double-take when filming on the soap resumes. Initially sceptical\, Chance talks to Adam about Jacie and the art of comedy and demonstrates her talent for the job. Clandestinely\, the pair agree to work on a comedy film with Jacie. She is given freedom to improvise and under Chance’s tutelage begins to learn more. \nThe mute Leister Trainsmith arrives with Carla and Jacie’s comedy scene is shown. Carla tears it apart and Chance loses his temper. Carla continues to insist on changes and finds herself on the receiving end of a custard pie from Jacie. Lester laughs and approves the film but orders Jacie to be scrapped. Carla returns order the studio closed. Jacie initially doesn’t mind being scrapped but after she and Adam dance and kiss\, she realizes she doesn’t want to ‘die’. \nAdam and Jacie go on the run and check in at the Grand Hotel\, go shopping and have a meal – with unforeseen results. Back in their room\, Adam uses a Bible to teach Jacie to read. Unfortunately\, Jacie has been tracked and Adam sends her a cheap ‘hotel’ to hide\, although she is becoming increasing unstable and distressed as she begins to feel real emotions. Adam returns but is stabbed by a pimp who believes Jacie is a prostitute. Jacie over-powers him\, but distraught that Adam has been injured\, she returns to the studio. \nAt the studio\, Carla is revealed to leaked Jacie’s story to the press and Lester proves not to be a mute\, firing Carla. He offers Jacie Carla’s job\, but Jacie is still confused and decides to be scrapped. Adam returns from the hospital and is given bad news by Chance. As he mourns his loss\, Jacie appears and admits she couldn’t go through with being scrapped. The lovers are reunited\, but Jacie looks set to be harder taskmaster than Carla in her new role…. \n\nInformation Session: \n\nAudition Information: www.blackwood.players@gmail.com \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:0\n\n\nDate:\n20/10/2024\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n1.00pm – 5.00pm\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:0\n\n\nRole Name:\nAll roles are available\n\n\nGender:\nUndefined\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nJCF 31333 Jacie Triplethree\n20’s – 30’s.
