The action started in the foyer with several work teams moving beams, building bridges and leaning on fences for the occasional “smoko”. Artistic Director Alirio Zavarce barked the orders and we were herded under the bridges and into the theatre. What fun!
The cast continued with this construction theme in their first segment “Not all who Wander are Lost”. Whilst the whole cast was involved I loved the solo voice of Aimee Crathern and the clear diction of the actor who spoke so well to her audience. Bravo!
In the second piece “The Call”, I was impressed by “The Chief” who sat on his chair and guided the dancers. A great image. the ensemble’s chanting of “Can you hear Me” was powerfully done and was a highlight of a show packed with interesting and exciting images and surprises.
The audience loved the talking heads projected on the screen at various times. We loved hearing about the individual ambitions and goals of individual cast members. We love your dreams.
In the “Portals” section the cast combined as one as the rocket left earth and finally landed on Saturn. The spaceship crew all played their roles enthusiastically. I must make mention of the actor who played Major Tom. Well done Major, I would happily follow your orders!
The doorway to Saturn routine “Is this Saturn?” was a blast. Every actor delivered their lines without a mistake and with good comic timing. Well done you! All of you!
Director Zavarce had excellent support throughout from teaching artists Tyson Olson, Ashleigh Hauschild, Stephanie Cavallaro; also from Artistic Associate Jermaine Hampton and student volunteers Jessica Raymond and Giang Le. Video editing by Kyle Davison was spot on and the total technical package was well manipulated by Brad Thomson.
