SUMMARY:White Horse Inn
DESCRIPTION:SYNOPSIS\nHead waiters of the White Horse Inn have found that to fall in love with the attractive young widow who owns the establishment is a swift and certain route to dismissal. Yet none have been able to resist Josepha; least of all Leopold\, the present incumbent. She\, however\, pines for Valentine Sutton\, a regular visitor from England\, and is resolutely blind to all the evidence that his thoughts for her are no more than warm friendship. Valentine’s annual visit is at hand\, and by the same steamer arrive Ebenezer Grinkle\, a self-made lad from Lancashire with plenty of brass\, his sweet young daughter Ottoline\, an impoverished Professor Hinzel and his/her gawky\, lisping\, but appealing daughter Gretel\, and a dapper young man\, Sigismund Smith (of Hammersmith). Sub-plots abound as Smith and Grinkle discover they are hated business rivals\, Sutton (who is Smith’s solicitor) falls in love with Ottoline\, and Smith with Gretel\, while Leopold repeatedly threatens to resign and wish them all a last “Good-bye!”. The subsequent arrival of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor serves at first only to add to the acrimonious chaos\, but finally his kindly understanding and wisdom do much to bring about the statutory happy ending.\n\nCast required:\nJosepha Vogelhuber – Proprietress of “The White Horse Inn” \, Mezzo-soprano. On the day of the audition\, you will be able to nominate a second preference of role should you wish to.\nSingers will be asked to perform\, ideally from memory\, a song of their choice that best indicates their suitability for the part for which they wish to be considered. SUMMARY:The Merry Widow
DESCRIPTION:Set in the Pontevedrian Embassy in Paris in 1880\, the show opens at a colourful ball hosted by the pompous middle-aged ambassador\, Baron Zeta (baritone\, David Roberts).  The fate of their country is in the hands of the widow Madame Glavari (soprano\, Kendall Geisler)\, a simple country girl who married a wealthy banker and\, on his death\, inherited his twenty millions.  If she marries a foreigner and takes her money out of the country then Pontevedro will be bankrupt.  From the beginning\, foreign diplomats\, St Brioche (Bob Daniel) and Cascada (Christian Pollnitz)\, lead a contingent of men vying for the hand of the widow. \nTo save the day the Baron calls on his attaché\, Count Danilo Danilovitch (baritone\, Toby Gajewski) to woo her.  However\, unbeknown to the Baron\, this handsome playboy is already in love with her\, but having previously been forbidden from marrying the lowly country girl\, he is less than enthusiastic.  Intrigues at the embassy between Baron Zeta’s wife\, Valencienne (soprano\, Kaila Barton)\, and the aristocratic Frenchman Count de Rosillon (tenor\, Anthony Little) complicate the situation further. \nThe Merry Widow abounds with delightful music\, from the ever-popular Merry Widow Waltz\, to the lively Women! Women! Women!\, the comic Driving in the Park and\, perhaps the best known of all\, Vilia\, making it one of the most loved operettas of all.  The Newry Studio of Irish Dance provide a delightful sextet of Grisettes (dancers from Maxim’s) to entertain guests. Add in a comic trio of aristocratic ladies (Carmine Clarke\, Margot Sage and Sandra Fameli)\, the baron’s downtrodden factotum\, Njegus (Sean Nugent)\, a talented orchestra under the baton of Helen Loveday\, choreography by Deborah Proeve and colourful costumes of the era to complete a truly wonderful show. \nThe Merry Widow is directed by Pam Tucker. \nBookings: phone  8294 6582

DESCRIPTION:In this beloved musical\, pompous phonetics professor Henry Higgins is so sure of his abilities that he takes it upon himself to transform a Cockney working-class girl into someone who can pass for a cultured member of high society. His subject turns out to be the lovely Eliza Doolittle\, who agrees to speech lessons to improve her job prospects. Higgins and Eliza clash\, then form an unlikely bond — one that is threatened by an aristocratic suitor. SUMMARY:The New Moon
DESCRIPTION:In 1792 New Orleans\, Robert\, a French revolutionist wanted by the Crown\, is caught and put aboard The New Moon to stand trial in France. Mutiny is instigated by his beloved Marianne\, and everyone on board starts a new\, flourishing island republic which comes under attack from the French just as a revolution there changes everything…\nRobert is a young French aristocrat whose revolutionary inclinations force him to flee his country. He sells himself as a bondservant to planter and shipowner Monsieur Beaunoir and his family in New Orleans.\nAs the police of Paris are looking everywhere for him\, Robert cannot tell Beaunoir or his beautiful daughter Marianne whom he has fallen in love with\, that he is of noble blood. Eventually he is tracked down by Vicomte Ribaud\, the detective villain\, and put on the ship The New Moon so that he can be deported back to France.\nRobert thinks that he has been betrayed by Marianne\, who has gained her father’s consent to travel on the same ship\, pretending she is in love with Captain Duval. There is a mutiny\, but Robert takes charge and the bondservants come into power. Everyone goes ashore on the Isle of Pines and a new republic is founded which flourishes under Robert’s guidance.\nBut Marianne\, her pride hurt\, at first refuses to marry Robert.
