DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE:  New venue and new start time for evening performances \nThe South Australian Light Opera Society is delighted to present our latest operetta\, Lilac Time\, at the Domain Theatre in the Marion Cultural Centre.  Because our usual venue is undergoing repairs\, we have had to change to a new venue and change the dates of our shows for this year.  We will also be changing the starting time for our evening performances to 7:30 pm\, meaning an earlier night for everyone.  Matinees will remain at 2:00 pm. \nLilac Time is set in Vienna in 1820 and is based loosely on the life of composer Franz Schubert\, played by Andrew McKinnon.  Schubert and his playboy friend\, Baron Schober (Frikkie Jacobs) are vying for the attention of Mitzi (Katrin Treloar)\, the youngest daughter of glassmaker\, Otto Zell (David Roberts)\, and his wife (Bronwyn Calvett). \nSchubert’s friends\, Kuppell (Andrew Winter)\, Schwind (Peter Muller) and Vogl (Christian Pollnitz) enjoy the fine Vienna weather and food at every opportunity.  Meanwhile\, Mitzi’s sisters\, Fritzi (Kathy Cilento) and Litzi (Carmine Clarke) are keen to marry their boyfriends\, Binder (Bob Daniel) and Brun (Phil Rodda).  Complications follow with the arrival of temperamental prima donna\, Taliani (Kendall Geisler)\, at a party to celebrate the ‘double wedding\,’ out to catch her philandering paramour\, Schober. \nBeautiful music written by Schubert himself has been adapted for our enjoyment to such songs as Hark\, Hark the Lark\, A Song to Remember\, Jolly Good Fellows and Lilac Time in this entertaining operetta.  Costumes of the period complete the scene as the story evolves in old Vienna. \nLilac Time is Directed by Pam Tucker with Musical Direction by Helen Loveday. \nFurther information is available from Pam Tucker at 8294 6582

Her son\, Strephon (Aled Proeve)\, wants to marry Phyllis (Danielle Ruggiero-Prior)\, a ward of Chancery\, but all of the peers have the same aim.  The Lord Chancellor (Damon Hill) is her guardian\, but is unwilling to make a choice\, and Phyllis rejects all the peers.  The peers\, led by Tolloller (Benjamin Fleming) and Mountararat (Graham Loveday)\, with Phyllis\, see Strephon embracing his mother (fairies remain excessively young) and accuses him of infidelity. \nA host of fairies\, including Rebecca Kmit (the Queen)\, Rhiannon Curtis (Celia)\, Alex Fowler (Leila) and Rachel Lee (Fleta) begin to fall in love with the peers\, while Private Willis (Jason Clark)\, on guard at the Palace of Westminster\, reflects on political life before falling for the Queen of the fairies.  A chorus of fairies\, dryads\, brownies\, pixies\, mushrooms and peers complete a stunning cast. \nLike all of the Savoy Operas\, Iolanthe is full of the delightful music of Sullivan and the biting wit of Gilbert. SUMMARY:White Horse Inn
DESCRIPTION:SYNOPSIS\nHead waiters of the White Horse Inn have found that to fall in love with the attractive young widow who owns the establishment is a swift and certain route to dismissal. Yet none have been able to resist Josepha; least of all Leopold\, the present incumbent. She\, however\, pines for Valentine Sutton\, a regular visitor from England\, and is resolutely blind to all the evidence that his thoughts for her are no more than warm friendship. Valentine’s annual visit is at hand\, and by the same steamer arrive Ebenezer Grinkle\, a self-made lad from Lancashire with plenty of brass\, his sweet young daughter Ottoline\, an impoverished Professor Hinzel and his/her gawky\, lisping\, but appealing daughter Gretel\, and a dapper young man\, Sigismund Smith (of Hammersmith). Sub-plots abound as Smith and Grinkle discover they are hated business rivals\, Sutton (who is Smith’s solicitor) falls in love with Ottoline\, and Smith with Gretel\, while Leopold repeatedly threatens to resign and wish them all a last “Good-bye!”. The subsequent arrival of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor serves at first only to add to the acrimonious chaos\, but finally his kindly understanding and wisdom do much to bring about the statutory happy ending.\n\nCast required:\nJosepha Vogelhuber – Proprietress of “The White Horse Inn” \, Mezzo-soprano. (The busiest people in the show!)\nZENZI\, a chambermaid (soprano)\nHEIDI\, a waitress (mezzo\, good mover)\nTRUDI\, a chambermaid (alto)\nHERBIE\, a waiter (baritone\, good mover)\nFRANZ\, a waiter (bass) is also the MAYOR (featured speaking role)\nALL ACTORS\, except for Leopold and Josepha\, WILL BE DOUBLE-CAST (some triple).\nThe original English version of White Horse Inn had a cast of 200 people. In keeping with the modern European tradition\, this production will have a cast of 15 people.\nAUDITIONS\nWhen making your audition booking\, you will be asked to nominate the primary role that you wish to be considered for. On the day of the audition\, you will be able to nominate a second preference of role should you wish to.\nSingers will be asked to perform\, ideally from memory\, a song of their choice that best indicates their suitability for the part for which they wish to be considered.
