The annual Two Wells Melodrama will be going ahead as usual this year\, as if 2020 didn’t happen (actually\, it didn’t\, not melodrama-wise\, which is why we’re doing it this year). \nSame time of year – the last three weekends in May – dates below. \n“Why is it reheated?” you ask. Because it’s a revamp of the 1989 Two Wells Melodrama\, “Baked Beings”. We have updated it and reworded it in places\, and mostly re-cast it\, with only two survivors of the original show taking part\, one in the same role – work that out! \nAnd there are new faces\, and young faces\, new orchestra members. But the same fun evening (or afternoon) out – a good meal\, locally catered\, with great laughs.

This comedy is set on the luxury train\, The Twentieth Century Limited\, travelling from Chicago to New York’s Grand Central Station. Aboard are egomaniacal theatre producer Oscar Jaffe\, desperately in need of a hit show\, and his former paramour and protégé\, volatile actress Lily Garland\, who abandoned him for a Hollywood career. Oscar is determined to sign her for his new show. Lily is just as determined to ignore his advances\, professional and personal. Trying to make sense of the chaos are his long-time and long-suffering assistants Webb and O’Malley. Other hilarious characters include George (Lily’s lover)\, Max (another ex-lover and producer) and a religious fanatic escaped from an institution.
