SUMMARY:Sylvia
DESCRIPTION:A R Gurney‘s tale of love and canine connection is sure to tug at your heart strings\, unleash your emotions and make you rethink love\, loyalty and four-legged friends! \nMiddle aged Greg is tired of his job in finance and looking for meaning in life. He finds a cheeky & exuberant stray dog in the park bearing only the name “Sylvia” on her name tag. He takes an immediate liking to her and brings her home to meet his wife\, Kate. \nUnlike Greg\, Kate is not so thrilled by this ‘loveable’ canine that jumps\, slobbers\, & cheekily sits on the new couch. Her career is taking off and right now she does not need a ‘Sylvia’ in her life! Reluctantly she agrees to give Sylvia a trial for a few days! \nWith Sylvia by his side\, Greg is able to escape from his work stresses. But Kate remains unimpressed by Sylvia’s antics\, and tension rises between the couple as Sylvia becomes a significant part of their life. \nFollow the story as Sylvia causes chaos and Greg & Kate learn to compromise. \n[Please contact the ticket seller on 0488 746 951 for wheelchair tickets]\n‘Drop off’ parking is available at the front of the theatre. \nWelcoming warm fires and a complimentary sherry in the foyer.

SUMMARY:The Sorcerer
DESCRIPTION:by Gilbert & Sullivan \nDirected by Bronwyn Calvett\nMD John Wilson \nFIVE SHOWS ONLY ! \n‘The Sorcerer’ is the tale of how with the best of intentions Alexis\, an English aristocrat in the village of Ploverleigh\, through the use of a love potion from an old firm of London magicians\, J. Wells & Co.\, Family Sorcerers\, gets all sorts of unlikely people to fall madly in love with one another.\nUnfortunately for Alexis\, this includes his fiancée\, Aline\, who falls for the elderly vicar Dr. Daly. Chaos ensues in the village\, and after many typical Gilbert and Sullivan style comic twists and turns all is eventually happily resolved.\nWell … almost ! \n‘The Sorcerer’ made its debut in 1877 and was the first Gilbert and Sullivan collaboration in which the two had complete control of the production. It was highly successful for its time\, which encouraged them to continue working together and expand the possibilities of satiric operetta. ‘The Sorcerer’ introduced such well known Gilbert and Sullivan trademarks as the comic duet\, the patter song\, the contrapuntal double chorus\, the tenor and soprano love duet and the soprano showpiece aria that we see in other shows to follow.\nThe Sorcerer also introduced W. S. Gilbert’s passion for satirizing the excessive focus of the English on class differences with a plot that turns the entire social order upside down.

SUMMARY:A Cheery Soul
DESCRIPTION:Written by Patrick White \nA Cheery Soul is a surreal satirical masterpiece set in the fictional Sydney suburb of Sarsaparilla at the end of the 1950s. \nMiss Docker is one of Nobel Laureate Patrick White’s most memorable creations. She and her neighbours are as hilarious and peculiar as they are uncannily familiar. \nMiss Docker the delightfully ghastly\, relentlessly upbeat ‘cheery soul’ takes us on a dizzying ride through suburban Australia\, as her search for purpose and love leads her in a series of increasingly surreal acts. From over-pruned tomato plants\, a damaged roast\, a nursing home\, a church and the destructive power of good. \nWhen goodness is too good…. \n“We audience members leave Holden Street yet again with the knowledge that we have experienced something exceptional.” – Barefoot Review

SUMMARY:The Hunchback of Notre Dame
DESCRIPTION:From the Academy Award-winning team comes a lushly scored retelling of Victor Hugo’s epic story of love\, acceptance and what it means to be a hero.\nBased on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney animated feature\, The Hunchback of Notre Dame showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score\, as well as new songs by Menken and Schwartz. Peter Parnell’s new book embraces story theatre and features verbatim passages from Hugo’s gothic novel.\nThe musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in fifteenth-century Paris. Quasimodo (played by Sam Mannix)\, the deformed bell-ringer who longs to be “Out There\,” observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by his devious caretaker\, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo (played by Andrew Crispe)\, he escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd\, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful Romani woman\, Esmeralda (played by Catherine Breugelmans). Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit\, though – the handsome Captain Phoebus (played by Robbie Breugelmans) and Frollo are equally enthralled. As the three vie for her attention\, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the Roma – and it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.\nA sweeping score and powerful story make The Hunchback of Notre Dame an instant classic. Audiences will be swept away by the magic of this truly unforgettable musical.
