SUMMARY:Shakespeare in Hollywood
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Ken Ludwig \nCreative Team: Directed by Jude Hines \n\nKen Ludwig’s Shakespeare in Hollywood \nCommissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company\, Shakespeare in Hollywood made its world premiere in 2003 at Arena Stage\, winning the Helen Hayes award for Best New Play of the Year. \nSynopsis (2 Acts) 120 minutes \nTake the glitz and glamour of 1930s Hollywood\, populated by real-life\, yet delightfully exaggerated\, personalities of the movie scene. Add a sophisticated German director with an artistic vision\, a couple of misplaced supernatural beings\, and one of William Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies of all time\, and you get Ken Ludwig’s Shakespeare in Hollywood\, in which Max Reinhardt’s problematic 1934 production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” — sure to be box office poison — is further complicated when Oberon and Puck\, fresh from a wood outside Athens\, find themselves transported from the land of legend and classical myth all the way to Hollywood and in the middle of a suspiciously familiar story. Oberon may be the all-powerful King of the Fairies — but he has never dealt with ambitious starlets\, prying gossip columnists\, or the odious Will Hays\, the all-powerful King of Censorship. And Puck may be an old hand at jolly mischief\, but he has encountered nothing like the cool sunglasses and hot beauties of Hollywood! When the enchantment of the silver screen meets the magic of Fairyland\, all merry hell breaks loose\, and we are treated to transformations\, chase scenes\, and the kind of havoc that only that certain love-juice can wreak. Shakespeare in Hollywood is a supernatural screwball romp\, full of entertainment\, and even a little bit of education. Featuring key players from Hollywood and from the 1930’s silver screen including Louella Parsons\, Joe. E. Brown\, Jimmy Cagney and Tarzan (Johnny Weissmuller) \n\nInformation Session: \n\nAudition Information: \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:0\n\n\nDate:\n01/02/2025\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n10:00 – 16:30\n\n\nAudition Information #:1\n\n\nDate:\n02/02/2025\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n10:00 – 16:30\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:0\n\n\nRole Name:\nOberon\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nKing of the Fairies – immortal\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Name:\nPuck\n\n\nGender:\nUndefined\n\n\nStage Age:\n\n\n\nRole Information:\nServant of Oberon – immortal\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:2\n\n\nRole Name:\nOberon\, Puck (can be M or F)\, Jack Warner\, Max Reinhardt\, Will Hays\, Daryl\, Olivia Darnell\, Lydia Lansing\, Louella Parsons\, Dick Powell\, Joe. SUMMARY:When We Dead Awaken
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Henrik Ibsen \nCreative Team: Director: Scott Sharrad\nProduction Managers: Lochie Daniel\, Chloe Short\nStage Manager: TBD \n\nPublished in 1899\, “When We Dead Awaken” is the final theatrical drama written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. Set at a Norwegian spa during the wintertime\, the story is told in three acts\, and charts the existential ruminations of professor and famed sculptor Arnold Rubek as he reunites with his former muse\, Irene von Satow. Desperate to recapture the glory of his past inspirations\, Rubek must also reconcile his relationship with his estranged wife\, Maia. Often called one of Ibsen’s most confessional works\, the play touches on themes of despair\, mortality\, legacy\, nostalgia\, artistic expression\, petrification\, rekindled romances\, and ultimately\, the acceptance of death. Some scholars believe the play is a biographical blend of Ibsen’s own life with that of his contemporary\, Auguste Rodin. \n\nInformation Session:\n13 Richmond Grove \n\nAudition Information: https://www.trybooking.com/CYOYG \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:0\n\n\nDate:\n08/02/2025\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n12:00 – 16:20\n\n\nAudition Information #:1\n\n\nDate:\n09/02/2025\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n12:00 – 16:20\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:0\n\n\nRole Name:\nProfessor Arnold Rubek\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n50\n\n\nRole Information:\nAt loose ends after losing his muse and his passion for creativity about 10-15 years before\nMarried to Maia as a way of ‘living life as expected’\nHe has been “going through the motions” of living until now\nSeeing Irene sparks a memory of his old self and he wants to recapture that at any cost\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Name:\nIrene\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n45\n\n\nRole Information:\nStrikingly beautiful\, clearly was a model and holds herself with utmost confidence\nHas bounced from disastrous relationship to disastrous relationship since\nWas Professor Rubek’s model for his magnum opus\nPossibly has borderline personality disorder or schizophrenia\nOR possibly has a terminal illness that is causing her mental health to deteriorate\nIs under mandated care/suicide watch\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:2\n\n\nRole Name:\nMaia\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n30\n\n\nRole Information:\nMarried Professor Rubek thinking he would show her the world\nHas come to the realisation that Prof Rubek does not/cannot love her the way she wants/needs and that she was ‘tricked’ into marriage\nIs longing to escape and have a real adventure and love\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:3\n\n\nRole Name:\nMr Ulfheim\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n35+\n\n\nRole Information:\nclearly worldly and well traveled\nA rugged outdoors type with the nickname “bear killer”\nA lothario that always gets what he wants\nIf he doesn’t he takes it anyway\nCruel at heart with moments of sincere concern for people around him\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:4\n\n\nRole Name:\nThe Inspector\n\n\nGender:\nUndefined\n\n\nStage Age:\n30+\n\n\nRole Information:\nACT 1 ONLY\nAny gender\, any age but with the authority to be running the Health Spa\nHas a ‘history’ with Mr Ulfheim that causes them to warn Maia about him and avoid his presence\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:5\n\n\nRole Name:\nSister of Mercy\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n18+\n\n\nRole Information:\nstrong\, caring presence that can be confused for being ominous and authoritarian\nis providing care and comfort to Irene\n(present during scenes\, speaks only the final 2 lines of the play)\n\n\n\n\nMore Information at: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13t9sKH2qYMl8h1sRb0Oi9FJweFC_ugQ9bdLBZmtfHXE/edit?usp=drive_link\nAudition Venue\nThe Warehouse Theatre\nRear of 8\, Unley Rd\, Unley SA 5061.\nAccess the venue via the driveway on the left of the motorbike store\, then hug the wall to the right\, walk along the gravel carpark\, then through the large roller door\, then to the right of the metal staircase. SUMMARY:Acts on Avenue presents 'Away'
DESCRIPTION:Acts on Avenue presents their Inaugural Production of ‘Away’ written by Michael Gow. \nIt’s Christmas 1967 and time to re-enact the rituals of the summer holiday. \nThree Australian families\, each from different social classes\, embark on their own holiday\, attempting to escape their underlying personal issues. \nImmigrants Harry and Vic love their adopted country but are constantly faced with their son\, Tom’s\, terminal illness\, while Jim and Gwen fret over their daughter Meg’s blossoming independence and her friendship with the socially unsuitable Tom\, and Roy is unable to console a grief–stricken Coral over the death of their only son during the Vietnam war. Although each family is completely dissimilar\, the theme of love remains. \nOne of the great Australian classics\, ‘Away’ deals with family interactions\, personal loss & grief\, hope & unattainable dreams\, status and a better understanding of our place in a world of possibilities.
