SUMMARY:Ghosts
DESCRIPTION:by Henrik Ibsen \nDirected by Rob Croser \nMrs Helene Alving prepares to open an orphanage in memory of her late husband.  Her son\, Osvald’s\, return summons ghosts of the past\, which she is desperate to forget.  Slowly\, mercilessly\, inexorably\, the secrets and lies of an isolated country town are stripped bare\, as Mrs Alving battles with the conservative conventions of a society\, where an individual’s right to free thought is seen as anarchic and dangerous. \nIbsen’s riveting drama about hypocrisy\, and the deadly legacy which Osvald has inherited from his parents\, shocked world audiences in 1881\, and led to its being banned in many countries.  Independent Theatre’s production of this spell-binding\, 5-person chamber-piece will play in Star Theatre’s more intimate Theatre 2.

SUMMARY:A Midsummer Night's Dream
DESCRIPTION:Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a romantic comedy play that takes place in a forest inhabited by fairies. The play has four main plots that revolve around the conflicts between the fairy King and Queen\, the romantic troubles among four young lovers\, the comical performances by a group of amateur actors\, and the transformation of Bottom the weaver into an ass. All these plots are interconnected by the central theme of love and its complexities. The play is known for its memorable characters\, including Puck\, the mischievous fairy\, and the mortal lovers Hermia\, Helena\, Lysander\, and Demetrius. \nSCCAS’s production is being directed by Elise Hall and Hope Meffle\, who are both passionate about performing. They met during SCCAS’s Chicago\, and went on to star in Beauty and the Beast. Although Midsummer will be their first foray into directing\, they have both performed the play and have the understanding necessary to present Shakespeare in a relatable way for both actors and audience\, while still preserving the magic of the text. \nNote:  Monday 26th June is a preview performance with all tickets $15

SUMMARY:Sweeney Todd
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the third-year students of Elder Conservatorium Music Theatre. \nSweeney Todd has become a bloody\, worldwide success since being awarded eight Tony’s\, (including Best Musical)\, for its Broadway premiere. Stephen Sondheim’s and Hugh Wheeler’s tasty\, thrilling\, theatrical treat has simultaneously shocked\, awed and delighted audiences across the world. \nAn infamous tale\, Sweeney Todd\, an unjustly exiled barber\, returns to nineteenth century London\, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett\, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop\, above which\, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up… and the carnage has only just begun! \nDirected by Helpmann Award-winner James Millar\, with an unmissable set design by David Lampard. Their collective and collaborative vision will present this tale unlike audiences have ever seen.

SUMMARY:Company - A Musical Comedy
DESCRIPTION:On the night of his 35th birthday\, Robert struggles to think of a wish to make as he blows out his birthday candles. The lone bachelor\, surrounded by “those good and crazy people” — his married friends — Robert is uncertain whether he should simply be happy with his lot or whether he should wish for his own romantic partner. Over a series of dinner parties\, first dates\, and thoughtful conversations\, Robert attempts to understand the pros and cons of marriage from his diverse and frequently hilarious friends. Finally\, Bobby begins to make sense of his own persistent bachelorhood. Company\, Stephen Sondheim’s ground-breaking modern musical\, is a mature\, intelligent and wildly funny look at relationships\, vulnerability and “being alive.” \nWednesday night 7th June is a preview with all tickets $15
