SUMMARY:White Horse Inn
DESCRIPTION:SYNOPSIS\nHead waiters of the White Horse Inn have found that to fall in love with the attractive young widow who owns the establishment is a swift and certain route to dismissal. Yet none have been able to resist Josepha; least of all Leopold\, the present incumbent. She\, however\, pines for Valentine Sutton\, a regular visitor from England\, and is resolutely blind to all the evidence that his thoughts for her are no more than warm friendship. Valentine’s annual visit is at hand\, and by the same steamer arrive Ebenezer Grinkle\, a self-made lad from Lancashire with plenty of brass\, his sweet young daughter Ottoline\, an impoverished Professor Hinzel and his/her gawky\, lisping\, but appealing daughter Gretel\, and a dapper young man\, Sigismund Smith (of Hammersmith). Sub-plots abound as Smith and Grinkle discover they are hated business rivals\, Sutton (who is Smith’s solicitor) falls in love with Ottoline\, and Smith with Gretel\, while Leopold repeatedly threatens to resign and wish them all a last “Good-bye!”. SUMMARY:Of Good Stock
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Kym Clayton \n\n\n\nThe three Stockton sisters (Jess\, Amy and Celia) are witty\, brilliant\, beautiful\, and dysfunctional. When their father\, legendary novelist Mick Stockton died\, he left his three daughters a house in Cape Cod\, control over his books\, and a whole lot of issues. He was a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist who had many affairs\, and their mother died young\, and it’s left them all pretty messed up. It’s Jess’s 41st birthday and she and her husband Fred have invited her younger sisters to their house on Cape Cod to celebrate. It’s an important milestone for Jess: she’s surpassing the age of her mother\, who died from cancer years ago. Amy is joined by her fiancé\, Josh. Celia\, the youngest\, brings Hunter\, her boyfriend. Their reunion ignites passions\, humour\, and wildly unanticipated upheavals. The men struggle to be a part of this elusive family’s legacy. Of Good Stock is a raw\, poignant\, and hilarious look at the fun and dysfunction of that thing we call family. \nReviews\n“Smoothly paced\, occasionally touching\, and … as comforting as a quart of mint chocolate chip ice cream\, eaten straight from the container.”—The New York Times\n“The reunion\, oiled with scotch\, leads to upsetting revelations\, the airing of grievances\, clumsy tendernesses\, profane screams and forgiving ruminations that volley across the stage in a zany\, often very funny cacophony … Ross’s characters are drawn with assurance\, wit and gentle mockery — we definitely have met these people …”—Los Angeles Times\n“Laugh-out-loud funny…relatable and thoroughly entertaining.”—Entertainment Weekly\n“Ross displays a flair for writing sharp\, funny dialogue.” —Hollywood Reporter\n“An engrossing mix of humour and heart. Ross’s three sisters strike a fine balance between the comfortingly recognizable and enchantingly fresh.” —TheaterMania.com. \nRoles: \nAmy – female\, stage age mid-30s – middle sister (271 cues) \nCelia – female\, stage age late-20s\, early 30s – younger sister (370 cues) \nFred – male\, stage age early to mid-40s – Jess’ husband – (363 cues) \nJosh – male\, stage age mid-30s – Amy’s fiancé – (108 cues\, appears in Act 1 only) \nHunter – male\, stage age lat 20s\, early 30s – Celia’s boyfriend (184 cues) \nAudition contact :\nPlease email Director Kym Clayton ackc1@optusnet.com.au to register for the audition. The audition will include reading/moving excerpts from the play\, with relevant pages emailed to you several days prior to the audition once you have registered. \nRehearsal day/times/ venue :\n* Tuesdays & Thursdays 7.00-9.30pm\, Sundays 1.00-5.00pm\, although there may be some variation to dates and times.\n* First rehearsal Sunday 18 February 2024\, or thereabouts.
