SUMMARY:Acts on Avenue presents 'Away'
DESCRIPTION:Acts on Avenue presents their Inaugural Production of ‘Away’ written by Michael Gow. \nIt’s Christmas 1967 and time to re-enact the rituals of the summer holiday. \nThree Australian families\, each from different social classes\, embark on their own holiday\, attempting to escape their underlying personal issues. \nImmigrants Harry and Vic love their adopted country but are constantly faced with their son\, Tom’s\, terminal illness\, while Jim and Gwen fret over their daughter Meg’s blossoming independence and her friendship with the socially unsuitable Tom\, and Roy is unable to console a grief–stricken Coral over the death of their only son during the Vietnam war. Although each family is completely dissimilar\, the theme of love remains. \nOne of the great Australian classics\, ‘Away’ deals with family interactions\, personal loss & grief\, hope & unattainable dreams\, status and a better understanding of our place in a world of possibilities.

SUMMARY:I Do\, I Do\, I Do
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Robin Hawdon \nCreative Team: Sue Wylie – Director \n\nWhoever said ‘love inspires the heart\, whilst stifling the brain’ was not wrong.\nThis romantic comedy is similar in style to the great classic Philadelphia Story (High Society) but set in England. It received rave reviews at its German world premiere and at subsequent US productions. \nThe story: Diana has it all. She is beautiful\, intelligent\, sweet natured – the sort of rare young woman that men swoon over. What’s more\, she is the daughter of that most reviled species\, a wealthy banker. The three men in her life are Jamie\, the much-envied man to whom she is officially betrothed; Tom\, the attractive boyfriend of Jamie’s sister; and Geoff\, an old friend who is to be best man. Diana’s insurmountable problem is that\, during the course of the longest weekend of her life\, she finds herself having promised marriage to all three.\nHow can she decide? What matters most – familiarity? Suitability? Sexual passion? Can she make up her mind in time for the big society wedding in a month’s time? \nBewildered banker’s wife\, Ann\, finds herself having to act as negotiator\, counsellor\, traffic controller\, legal adviser\, judge\, jury\, and fortune teller to an entire household of distraught people. And it isn’t discovered until the final curtain who it is that Diana chooses. \n\nInformation Session:\n69 May Street \n\nAudition Information: https://www.trybooking.com/CYNKT \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:0\n\n\nDate:\n22/02/2025\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n10:30 – 3:00\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:0\n\n\nRole Name:\nAnn\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n50s\n\n\nRole Information:\nHas a wealthy and indulgent husband (not seen in the play but mentioned)\nLoves her children but doesn’t understand them.\nUnfazed by the events of the weekend; simply changes the arrangements\nSuperb\, if showy\, taste in décor.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Name:\nJamie\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n30s\n\n\nRole Information:\nAnn’s son\nIndulged\nA distinct individual.\nEngaged to Diana.\nHas known Diana for years\, they’ve settled into a comfortable relationship\nThey’ve drifted into the engagement – the upcoming marriage is more about what other people expect them to do.\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:2\n\n\nRole Name:\nHolly\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n20s\n\n\nRole Information:\nAnn’s daughter; Jamie’s sister\, late 20s.\nVery fond of Diana.\nIs bringing Tom home for the weekend to meet the parents and relatives.\nHas had fun being single. SUMMARY:Peace in our Time
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Noel Coward \nCreative Team: Presented by Stirling Players\nDirected by Geoff Brittain \n\nPeace in Our Time is a two-act play written in 1946 by Noël Coward. \nIt is a work of alternative history\, focusing on a group of Londoners in a pub close to Sloane Square\, after Nazi Germany has won the Battle of Britain and successfully invaded and occupied the United Kingdom.\nThe setting is the saloon bar of a London public house called The Shy Gazelle\, somewhere between Knightsbridge and Sloane Square. The time is November 1940. Britain has been conquered and occupied by Nazi Germany. The Shattock family run the Shy Gazelle\, with a clientele mostly of locals. The latter are in general ordinary British people\, resentful of the German occupation but\, to varying degrees\, resigned to it.\nThe play is unusual for its sombre tone\, being considerably darker than the comedic approach of most of Coward’s plays\, and takes inspiration from the real-life sufferings of French citizens during the German occupation of France. \n\nInformation Session: \n\nAudition Information: https://www.trybooking.com/CZFYJ \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:0\n\n\nDate:\n22/03/2025\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n0930 – 1630\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:0\n\n\nRole Name:\nAlma Broughton\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n35\n\n\nRole Information:\nwell-dressed talkative woman\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Information:\nPublican – an amiable\, gregarious man.
