SUMMARY:Iolanthe
DESCRIPTION:The South Australian Light Opera Society’s next production is Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe\, directed by Maria Davis. One of the lesser known of the Savoy Operas\, Iolanthe sees Gilbert taking aim at the political arena of the time\, and being especially cruel to the House of Lords who he portrays as ineffective and unintelligent. \nIolanthe (Dione Baker) has been banished from fairyland for marrying a mortal. Her son\, Strephon (Aled Proeve)\, wants to marry Phyllis (Danielle Ruggiero-Prior)\, a ward of Chancery\, but all of the peers have the same aim.  The Lord Chancellor (Damon Hill) is her guardian\, but is unwilling to make a choice\, and Phyllis rejects all the peers.  The peers\, led by Tolloller (Benjamin Fleming) and Mountararat (Graham Loveday)\, with Phyllis\, see Strephon embracing his mother (fairies remain excessively young) and accuses him of infidelity. \nA host of fairies\, including Rebecca Kmit (the Queen)\, Rhiannon Curtis (Celia)\, Alex Fowler (Leila) and Rachel Lee (Fleta) begin to fall in love with the peers\, while Private Willis (Jason Clark)\, on guard at the Palace of Westminster\, reflects on political life before falling for the Queen of the fairies.  A chorus of fairies\, dryads\, brownies\, pixies\, mushrooms and peers complete a stunning cast. \nLike all of the Savoy Operas\, Iolanthe is full of the delightful music of Sullivan and the biting wit of Gilbert. You will be enchanted by Tripping hither (Chorus of Fairies)\, None shall Part us (Phyllis and Strephon)\, When I went to the bar (Lord Chancellor)\, When all night long a chap remains (Willis) and When Britain really ruled the waves (Mountararat)\, all backed by a talented orchestra under the baton of Kate White\, with choreography by Deborah Proeve and colourful costumes of the era to complete a truly wonderful show. \nTickets – call Pam 8294 6582

SUMMARY:Home\, I'm Darling
DESCRIPTION:This is the perceptively funny story of one woman’s quest to be an ideal 1950s housewife. Judy and Johnny are a little different and they love it. They’re 1950s enthusiasts who have taken role-playing to a new level. Johnny’s swapped meal prep and laundry for foot rubs and cocktail hour. Judy’s swapped a career and jeans for darning\, dusting and full skirts. \nIn a house complete with perfect pastel bathroom\, mid-century knickknacks and good old-fashioned home cooking\, the couple live out their ultimate\, nostalgic fantasy. But the 21st Century has a nasty habit of forcing its way into their pristine bubble. Whether it’s in the form of Johnny’s new boss\, the contemporary cost of living on a ‘50s budget\, or Judy’s critical mother (who lived through the ‘50s)\, the present insists on being dealt with. \nDirected by Jude Hines

SUMMARY:Kissing the Witch
DESCRIPTION:“When a boy changes his life\, it’s called an adventure. When a girl does the same\, it’s only a fairy tale.” \nA rich tapestry of passion\, ambition\, and transformation\, ‘Kissing The Witch’ allows women to reclaim the stories and identities that have been used against them for centuries. Five familiar tales – ‘Beauty and the Beast’\, ‘Donkeyskin’\, ‘The Goose Girl’\, ‘The Little Mermaid’\, and an enchanting new story – are seamlessly unspun and rewoven in unexpected ways. Women young and old tell their own stories of love\, lies\, and alliances – all with a determination to seize back the narrative. \n‘Kissing The Witch’ challenges what we think we know of traditional tales of ‘good’ and ‘evil’. It explores the nuance in the fantastical\, and the sensual in the magical; it reclaims the power of the Witch. \n‘Kissing The Witch’ was written by acclaimed Irish author and playwright Emma Donoghue\, best known for her novel ‘Room’.

SUMMARY:White Horse Inn
