Not yet an artist\, he worked for the Dutch art dealer Goupil in a Covent Garden gallery. He lodged in Brixton\, South London with Ursula Loyer and her daughter Eugenie. Vincent’s love for Eugenie is not reciprocated. In imagining the relationships among the play’s characters Wright departs from the official record\, which is skimpy in any case. Among the audience are his mother\, an acclaimed actress\, and her lover\, a famous novelist. Their glamorous presence not only disrupts the performance\, but takes on a more profound significance for all present\, in a dramatic comedy about misplaced love and the artistic life. \n“Seagull” was the first of Chekhov’s four great plays which revolutionised the world of theatre. This brilliant new translation was first performed at London’s Arcola Theatre\, and starred Geraldine James as Arkadina. \nIndependent Theatre’s cast includes Rebecca Kemp\, Eddie Sims\, Eloise Quinn-Valentine and Patrick Marlin. \nNOTE: The Little Theatre – Adelaide University is a Double Vaccinated Venue.
