SUMMARY:HMS PINAFORE
DESCRIPTION:Last seen in its entirety in the Society’s 2008 production\, HMS Pinafore is Gilbert & Sullivan’s first blockbuster initially playing in both England and America. \nUnlike its predecessor The Sorcerer\, it is a tale of love that crosses both class and rank. A lowly sailor in love with the Captain’s daughter\, who is promised to a British lord who has been promoted to run the British Navy but has never been to sea. What could possibly go wrong??? \nThis production uses the original words and music but has been given some new twists by TASA Bravo award winner and well-known director/actor Barry Hill\, musical director Jacqui Maynard\, fresh from her musical contribution to The Stirling Player’s production of Nell and Celeste Barone\, choreographer for The Met’s High Society last year.

SUMMARY:Don Juan in Soho
DESCRIPTION:“He’d do it with anything … a hole in the ozone layer”. \nThe Theatre Guild opens its 2019 season with Don Juan in Soho\, written by Patrick Marber in 2006\, inspired by Molière’s 1665 comedy and revised and updated by Marber in 2017 to include contemporary references. \nDJ\, a “true poet of the flesh”\, is living it up in modern day Soho\, sleeping his way through endless conquests with no thought to the consequences.   He is utterly reprehensible and indefensibly filthy – “Satan in a suit from Savile Row” – and his long-suffering assistant Stan can barely keep up with covering his tracks.   But by abandoning his new bride Elvira on their honeymoon\, our anti-hero DJ goes too far\, incurs the wrath of her brothers and is forced to confront his actions.  Then all hell lets loose! \nMarber’s play is overtly and unashamedly raunchy\, full of foul language and frequently shocking behaviour.  It’s a hilarious satire on the idiocies of our age\, notably our obsession with ourselves\, our expectation that every whim will be catered for and our need always to be the centre of attention. \n“Please don’t be charmed.  He is not a loveable rogue.  He really isn’t.” \nWarning Message: A contemporary play containing coarse language and simulated acts of a sexual nature which some people may find confronting. For mature audiences only.

SUMMARY:Bunkered
DESCRIPTION:Set in a de-commissioned and completely “forgotten” ex Cold War reconnaissance bunker somewhere on the South Coast of England\, our hapless Royal Navy lot have been turning up for “work” for the past 20 years ever since the bunker was decommissioned in 1991 and is entirely due to an oversight on the part of the Royal Navy wages computer which has kept on paying them.  They’ve donned their uniforms each day and arrived on time to man the fort\, bringing with them their hobbies and pastimes including looking after the Royal Navy carrier pigeons.  Coming up to retirement and feeling a tad guilty\, Chief Petty Officer Peter Burrows decides to ask a friend in to “fix” the ageing computers and bring them up to full working order.  Little does he know the problems our electrical whiz-kid stirs up when the Naval Headquarters receives a signal from what they thought was a defunct facility – could this be the Russians?  Time to call in the Royal Marines – with\, of course\, hilarious consequences. \n(We assure patrons that no animals were injured during the making of this production!)
