SUMMARY:AN ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Adapted from Ibsen’s 1882 masterpiece by Melissa Reeves \nCreative Team: Erik Strauts \n\nDr. Katherine Stockman lives in a tight-knit rural community – she’s woven into the town’s fabric and is viewed as a local hero after advocating for the popular local baths. One day she makes a disturbing discovery: the spa water for which the town is famed is severely polluted. The baths attract visitors and are central to the community’s prosperity\, but this prosperity has been built on poison and the truth must be told. Katherine believes it is her duty to alert the public. However\, this decision quickly backfires. To her horror\, people refuse to believe that there is a problem and argue that the economic well-being of the community must come first. What does she do? Does she fight for the truth if it means the loss of income\, family\, community\, identity? Stockmann’s struggle unfolds as a powerful indictment of the hypocrisy that often surrounds public sentiment.\nThe play is set in Australia. SUMMARY:Hansard
DESCRIPTION:‘Hansard’ is an intimate domestic drama about a long and troubled marriage. It is also a comedy about politics and identity and the failings of the ruling class.\nThe set is a lovely country mansion in the Cotswolds. The time is a Saturday morning in the summer of 1988\, towards the end of the Thatcher years. It is the home of Tory cabinet member Robin Hesketh and his politically-opposed\, stay-at-home\, wife of 30 years\, Diana.\nBut all is not as blissful as it seems. The couple are at odds over Robin’s part in assisting a recent piece of sensitive legislation to be passed in parliament during the last week.\nThe play ends with a ‘delicate’\, heart–rending revelation.

SUMMARY:Australia Day
DESCRIPTION:Written by Jonathan Biggins \nDirected by Jude Hines \nAfter several tours of duty as an Australia Day Ambassador in regional NSW\, Jonathan Biggins’ initial scepticism about celebrating the national day melted like a lamington in the midday sun. It showed him the warmth\, dedication and quiet patriotic pride of the organisers and the towns they serve. The experience also whet his appetite to write a comedy that takes aim squarely at another hallowed institution: the committee. \n‘A charming comedy … full of up-to-date gags and finger-on-the-pulse problems’ – Sydney Morning Herald \n‘There’s something to offend just about everyone in Jonathan Biggins deliciously light and perfectly pitched jokefest’ – The Australian \n‘If you want social satire and huge laughs at the expense of\, well just about everyone in our sun-drenched country\, Australia Day is just the ticket’ – Herald Sun. \nCharacters (4M\, 2F) \nBRIAN HARRIGAN (45 plus) Mayor and a preselection candidate for the Liberal Pary. Chair of the Australia Day Organising Committee. A small business owner and a Rotarian. \nROBERT WILSON (45 plus) Deputy Mayor. Loyal deputy chair of the committee. \nMAREE BUCKNELL (60 plus) President of the local Country Women’s Association. A long-serving committee member. \nWALLY STEWART (55 plus) A local builder and small-scale developer. Another long-serving committee member. \nHELEN McINNES (35 plus) The local greens councillor\, a relatively new arrival from the state capital. New to the committee. \nCHESTER LEE (25 plus) A new arrival to town. An Australian-born Vietnamese. \n  \nSeason (10 performances) at The Arts Theatre\, 53 Angas Street\, Adelaide. \nThursday\, 9th and Friday\, 10th April at 7.30 pm \nMatinees: Saturday\, 11th and Sunday\, 12th April at 2 pm \nWednesday\, 15th to Saturday\, 18th April at 7.30 pm \nThird Matinee: Saturday\, 18 April at 2 pm \nPreview: Wednesday\, 8th April at 7.30 pm \nRehearsals: Sunday afternoons and two weeknights TBC. \nAuditions: Saturday\, 20 September 2025. \n15-minute slots at The Therry Clubrooms\, 1 Regina Court\, Beverley. \nAfter booking your audition\, a script will be emailed to you.
