DESCRIPTION:SYNOPSIS:\nNowra’s vibrant play is set inside a psychiatric institution in 1971. Lewis\, a young director\, takes on the task of mounting a production of Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte in the burnt-out theatre. He becomes emotionally involved with his patients-cum-actors as his operatic production lurches forward and anti-Vietnam protests rage outside. \nFirst produced in 1992\, COSI has become one of the most successful Australian plays produced in the last two decades. A terrific\, funny play about madness\, illusion\, sanity… and theatre. \nDIRECTOR’S COMMENTS:\nThis is a classic play\, and deserves to be revived. It is one of the great ensemble pieces of Australian theatre. It is very funny\, while having moving moments. It offers wonderful opportunities for a cast to play characters with often tragic backgrounds and mental illnesses\, and then spread their comic wings to create a truly funny and absurd play within a play. \nROLES AVAILABLE \n7 Male characters who can be played by 5 actors \n4 Female characters\, could be played by 3 actors \nAges listed are stage ages \nLewis – male 21 in the play\, has just left university \nLucy – female early 20s\, is doing and MA thesis and lives with Lewis (actor may double this with Julie) \nNick – male early 20s\, also doing a thesis and directs student productions (actor may double this with Justin and Zac) \nJustin – male 35 to 45\, a social worker. He is neat and precise \nRoy – male 40 to 50\, a mental patient who has spent most of his life in institutions \nDoug – male 20 to 30\, has a liking of fires\,  but has not been in institutions very long \nHenry – male 40 to 55\, a former lawyer who is now a patient. It is a character-driven comedy that touches on some of the issues of the time and so has elements of pathos as well as a lot of laughs. Toinette\, the help\, has great fun manipulating the situation and eventually resolving it. \nProduction description/Director’s vision:\nMoliere’s writing is timeless and his characters are as relevant today as they were in 1673. This production will be quirky\, fun and full of energy with many references to the style and essence of Commedia Dell’arte and pantomime. \nThe auditions will be held at The Stirling Community Theatre\, Avenue Rd Stirling. Then the young bride of the heir to the throne of the kingdom of Barataria arrives in Venice to join her husband. It turns out\, however\, that he can’t be identified\, as he was entrusted to the care of a drunken gondolier who mixed up the prince with his own son. To complicate matters\, the King of Barataria has just been killed. The two young gondoliers must now jointly rule the kingdom until the nurse of the prince can be brought in to determine which of them is the rightful king. Moreover\, when the young lady arrives to claim her husband\, she finds that the two gondoliers have now both recently married local girls. A final complicating factor is that she\, herself\, is in love with yet another man.
