SUMMARY:Heathers
DESCRIPTION:This event is for anyone who wishes to be involved in Zest’s next major production – “Heathers the Musical”. We will provide information about the show\, characters\, rehearsal dates\, performance dates and audition details. Come along to register your interest in being involved both on and off stage. Westerberg High is ruled by a shoulder-padded\, scrunchie-wearing posse: Heather\, Heather\, and Heather\, the hottest and cruellest girls in all of Ohio. Misfit Veronica Sawyer\, who hustles her way into this teenage power trifecta\, discovers that life in the Teflon crowd isn’t all that it seems. All bets are off when a darkly delicious stranger\, JD\, plans to put the Heathers in their place — six feet under. Heathers explores\, with biting satire\, empowerment and vulnerability in the relationships between friends\, lovers\, parents\, and school communities\, creating a show of high emotion. \nBrought to you by the award-winning creative team of Kevin Murphy (“Reefer Madness”\, “Desperate Housewives”)\, Laurence O’Keefe (“Bat Boy”\, “Legally Blonde”) and Andy Fickman (“Reefer Madness”\, “She’s the Man”). “Heathers The Musical” is a hilarious\, heartfelt and homicidal new show based on the greatest teen comedy of all time. SUMMARY:STAGE KISS
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Sarah Ruhl\nDirector Sally Putnam \nArt imitates Life. Life imitates Art. When two actors with a history are thrown together as romantic leads in a forgotten 1930s melodrama\, they quickly lose touch with reality. \nAfter a decade-long hiatus from the stage\, an actress (referred to as “She” in the script) is set to make her comeback in the 1930s melodrama The Last Kiss as doomed heroine Ada Wilcox.  Despite having the support of her husband Harrison and her daughter Angela\, her world turns upside down when she finds that the role of her character’s ex-lover (with whom Ada reginties a passionate love affair) will be played by none other than her own ex-lover (referred to as “He” in the script).  Forced into close proximity with he – and his lips – the lines between She and her character  begin to blur.  On top of their inexorable attraction to each other\, She and He must also contend with  a panoply of theatrical challenges\, including a broken ankle\, a slippery script\, a director who implores  them to “trust your instincts”\, and an understudy who kisses like a pachoderm.  Still\, on opening night\, thrilled by their apparently successful show\, She and he lose sight of reality entirely.  The acted and the actual become one and the same and the two chracters decide to re-consummate their stormy relationship. \nAct Two opens after The Last Kiss has closed.  Despite the production’s terrible reviews\, She and He have blissfully continued their affair\, and are holed up at He’s apartment in New York City.  That is\, until Harrison\, Angela and He’s girlfriend Laurie show up to confront them.  Afterwards\, having severed ties with their loved ones in order to stay together\, the pair decides to star in a new play directed and written by the same director as The Last Kiss.  Forced to move to Detroit and to act in a production set in the seventies about an undercover IRA agent and an ageing prostitute who wants to become an opthalmologist\, She and He begin the same downward spiral that ended their first relationship.  As art and life begin to seprate\, the characters look at each other with newly clear eyes – an act that radically changes their conceptions of themselves\, their desires\, and their relationships. \n\nAudition dates/times A group audition will be held Sunday 4 August 2019 at 2.00pm.\nAuditions will be held at Park Holme Community Hall\, 683 Marion Road Park Holme (corner Wallala Avenue & Marion Road). \nAudition contact\nFor further information about the play and to register your interest in auditions\, please contact the director Sally Putnam by email shputnam@gmail.com making sure to provide your contact telephone number \nRehearsal day/times/ venue\n– Tuesdays & Thursdays 7.00-10.00pm\, Sundays 1.30-5.30pm\n– First rehearsal Sunday 15 March 2020\, or thereabouts\n– Park Holme Community Hall\, 638 Marion Road\, PARK HOLME (corner Wallala Avenue & Marion Road) \nDates/Times of performances\nThurs 28\, Fri 29\, Sat 30 May 2020 @ 8pm\nThurs 4\, Fri 5\, Sat 6 June 2020 @ 8pm\nMatinee: Sat 6 June 2019 @ 2pm \nPerformance venue\nDomain Theatre\, Marion Cultural Centre\n287 Diagonal Road\, OAKLANDS PARK SA 5046 \n\n\n\nRole Name\nGender\nStage Age\nRole Information\n\n\nShe\nFemale\nStage age flexible\, approx. 40s\nPlays the role of Ada Wilcox.  Mother of Angela\, wife of Harrison.\n\n\nHe\nMale\nStage age flexible\, approx. 40s\nPlays the role of Johnny Lowell.\n\n\nDirector\nMale\nFlexible\nPlays the role of Adrian Schwalbach\n\n\nKevin/Butler/Doctor/Pimp\nMale\nFlexible\nPlays four roles\n\n\nHusband/Harrison\nMale\nFlexible\nPlays two roles\n\n\nAngela/Maid/Millie\nFemale\nThe actor playing this role will likely be in her early 20s who can believably play a teenager.\nPlays Millie and the Maid in Act 1; Angela in Act 2.\n\n\nMillicent/Laurie\nFemale\nlate 20s-early 30s\nPlays Millicent in Act 1; Laurie in Act 2.\n\n\nAccompanist\nUndefined\nunimportant\nThe actor playing this role will be able to play the piano.\n\n\n\n

At the séance\, she inadvertently summons Charles’s first wife\, Elvira\, who has been dead for seven years. Only Charles can see or hear Elvira. The ghostly Elvira makes continued\, and increasingly desperate\, efforts to disrupt Charles’s current marriage. She finally sabotages his car in the hope of killing him so that he will join her in the spirit world\, but it is Ruth rather than Charles who drives off and is killed. \nRuth’s ghost immediately comes back for revenge on Elvira\, and Charles calls Madame Arcati back to exorcise both of the spirits\, but instead of banishing them she unintentionally materialises Ruth. With both his dead wives now fully visible\, and neither of them in the best of tempers\, Charles\, together with Madame Arcati\, goes through séance after séance and spell after spell to try to exorcise them. It is not until Madame Arcati works out that the housemaid\, Edith\, is psychic and had unwittingly been the conduit through which Elvira was summoned that she succeeds in dematerialising both ghosts. Charles is left seemingly in peace\, but Madame Arcati\, hinting that the ghosts may still be around unseen\, warns him that he should go far away as soon as possible. \nROLES AVAILABLE:\n(Please note that the roles of Madame Arcati\, Charles Condomine\, Ruth Condomine and Elvira have been pre-cast). \nAll ages given are general stage ages. SUMMARY:“THAT’S NOT HOW I REMEMBER IT” & “ORANGE IS THE NEW GLASS”
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Don Zolidis\nDirected By: Alicia Zorkovic & Michelle Nightingale \n“That’s Not How I Remember It”\nMum and Dad love to tell the story of how they met in 1986 — “pretty much the most awesome year ever.” Trouble is\, they remember their courtship completely differently. Mum’s version makes their meeting sound like a sappy romantic comedy while Dad somehow makes himself the star of a karate battle. This tubular one-act is a crazy homage to bad 80s movies and the inadequacies of memory. \nPLUS \n“Orange is the New Glass”\nIn a fairy-tale kingdom obsessed with pop culture and social media\, fairy godmothers are lawyers and the Three Little Pig-arazzi chase celebrities. But when Cinderella leaves her self-absorbed prince and winds up in jail with an unlikely girl squad\, she doesn’t just cause a sensation–she starts a revolution. A warmhearted comedy full of clever characters. \nPlease visit our website and download the Audition Information Pack before booking an audition spot. Please contact us if you have any questions about the production. Thanks \n\n\n\nRole Name\nGender\nStage Age\nRole Information\n\n\nVarious\nUndefined\nAll actors to be aged 9-21\nMany roles to choose from over two plays\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Lysistrata
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Aristophanes\nDirected by Megan Dansie \nVery funny play\, that should be subtitled “The sex strike”. The women stop a war by depriving the men of sex. A translation that is probably by Oscar Wilde. \nAges are fairly flexible (late teens onwards). We encourage diversity of ethnic background. The material is bawdy. \nSpartans require comic Scots accents (blame the translator). \nBOOKINGS: playreading@adelaiderep.com \nAUDITION DATE: Saturday 27 June from 9am-5pm at the ARTS Theatre (53 Angas St\, Adelaide). \nPERFORMANCE: Performance will be filmed Saturday 21 November 2020 and film release date is Saturday 28 November 2020. \nRehearsals will be held at the ARTS Theatre on Angas St in Adelaide City. \n\n\n\nRole Name\nGender\nStage Age\nRole Information\n\n\nLysistrata\nFemale\n \nA grand\, intelligent\, alluring woman\, Lysistrata organizes a sex strike not only in her hometown of Athens but in Sparta as well\, all in the hope that the men of Greece might peacefully end the bloody\, costly Peloponnesian War. She is something of an idealist\, and very witty.\n\n\nCalonice\nFemale\n \nThe fun-loving Athenian woman is the first to respond to her neighbor Lysistrata’s summons at the beginning of the play. However\, she conforms more to Athenian gender stereotypes than her neighbor does. She loves soft\, fancy garments\, and she would rather walk through fire than abstain from having sex. She even slanders her own sex as being superficial\, lazy\, and unwise. That being said\, once she joins Lysistrata’s cause sheproves herself to be sharp-tongued and fierce: she serves as the women’s spokesperson when they swear their Oath to abstain from sex\, and she wields a chamber pot in the fight against the Athenian police.\n\n\nMyrrhine\nFemale\n \nThe conventional Athenian woman Myrrhine arrives guiltily late to Lysistrata’s summons at the beginning of the play\, but once there she promises to do anything to end the war\, even to cut herself in half like a mackerel—but then she immediately cries out “On with the War!” when asked to abstain from sex. Lysistrata soon persuades Myrrhine to take part in the sex strike\, however\, and indeed Myrrhine goes on to support the cause by fiercely wielding a blazing lamp against the Athenian police. Toward the end of the play\, the fate of Lysistrata’s plot practically rests in Myrrhine’s hands\, as she takes the most active role yet in seducing her husband Kinesias and then denying him satisfaction.\n\n\nLampito\nFemale\n \nA brawny representative Spartan\, Lampito is the first woman to support Lysistrata’s plot for peace. While the Athenian women seize the Acropolis\, Lampito returns to Sparta to organize a sex strike of her own. Per an Athenian ethnic stereotype—and like all the Spartan extras in the play—Lampito comes off as something of an unsophisticated\, half-witted bumpkin who speaks a degenerate dialect of Greek. Scottish accent preferred.\n\n\nIsmenia\nFemale\n \nA pretty Boiotian girl who comes from an aristocratic family in Thebes\, an ally of Sparta in the Peloponnesian League. She accompanies Lampito to Lysistrata’s summons\, and remains in Athens as a warmly welcome hostage until Athens and Sparta make peace. She never speaks\, but she does repel a policeman by brandishing “a huge pair of pincers.”\n\n\nOther women (5+)\nFemale\nYounger to middle aged women.\n \n\n\nOther women\n \nOlder women Chorus. Can be “aged up” if needed.\nChorus lines will be divided between them\, and sometime spoken in unison. Old women are fierce and no nonsense.\n\n\nMagistrate\nMale\n \nThe embodiment of patriarchal authority\, law\, and order in Athens\, he orders his squad of four police (or rather\, Scythian archers\, the Athenian equivalent of our police) to arrest the rebels\, Although the Magistrate is bullheaded and loathes what he calls the “MORAL CHAOS” brought on by the women\, he is also intent on understanding the women’s motives. Lysistrata tries to explain\, but when the Magistrate becomes outraged by what he thinks is female presumptuousness\, she and her cohorts shut him up by forcibly dressing him up like a woman. Later\, the Magistrate takes even worse: when he urges a reinvigoration of the war effort\, the women attack him until he staggers offstage. By the play’s end\, however\, even the Magistrate gets a little drunk and only plays at being an enforcer of the rules.\n\n\nCinesias\nMale\n \nAn Athenian citizen\, Myrrhine’s husband\, and the father of her baby boy. He approaches the Acropolis afflicted by a nasty attack of love (read: a painful erection) and attempts to seduce his wife\, only to be led on and then abandoned. Toward the end of the play\, Cinesias is part of the Athenian delegation that\, guided by Lysistrata\, brokers a peace with the Spartans.\n\n\nSpartan herald\nMale\n \nScottish accent required. Arrives near the end of the play desperately trying to conceal an enormous erection\, as the Spartans have also been sex deprived.\n\n\nChorus of Old Men\nMale\ncan be “aged up” if needed\nChorus lines will be divided between them\, and sometime spoken in unison. The old men are comic\, doddery types.\n\n\nOther men\nMale\n \nOther men as police\, Heralds\, envoys\, Athenians\, Spartans\, market loungers\, porter\, etc with some dialogue.\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:"Cut" & “All I Really Need to Know I Learned From Being a Zombie”
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Ed Monk\nAlicia Zorkovic & Michelle Nightingale (Directors) \n“Cut” by Ed Monk\nA group of actors rehearses a play within a play within a play. As the plot complications multiply\, the actors begin to forget who is playing whom and who is the real director — as opposed to the actor who is playing the director\, or vice versa. Then they can’t seem to remember who they really are\, as opposed to the people they are playing in any of the various scripts.
