SUMMARY:BETTY BLUE EYES
DESCRIPTION:BETTY BLUE EYES is a very British musical full of eccentric characters and a vibrant ensemble\, plus a deliciously infectious toe-tapping\, retro/contemporary score. The result is musical comedy gold! Belts are being tightened\, and the government is telling the country there’ll be fair shares for all … if they survive Austerity Britain. Meanwhile\, local officials feather their own nests by taking more than their fair share. Having won the war\, Britain seems to be losing the peace: the country is staggering under rationing\, unemployment\, and the coldest winter for decades. The only bright spark on the horizon is the impending Royal Wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Some local businessmen plan a party to celebrate the royal nuptials and illegally raise a pig for that occasion. Meanwhile\, the local food inspector is determined to stop any activity circumventing food rationing.\n\n\n\nSEASON AT THE ARTS THEATRE\n7th -11th and 14th -17th June 2023 at 7.30pm.\nMatinees first weekend Saturday and Sunday at 3pm.\nNo performance on Saturday evening\, 10th June.\nSecond weekend matinee is Saturday at 2 pm.\n\n\n\nAUDITIONS\nPlease book a time keeping in mind that choreography auditions will be held in groups\, so please allow at least an hour for your audition. Not all cast will be required to tap dance. Please prepare a song of your choice for the musical part of your audition – and please bring the sheet music.\n\nRehearsals will commence on Sunday\,19 March from 1-5 pm. SUMMARY:Company
DESCRIPTION:The Show: Company is Stephen Sondheim’s ground-breaking musical; a mature\, intelligent\, and wildly funny look at relationships\, vulnerability and “being alive”\, rather than simply living. \nThe Story: It’s his 35th birthday and Robert can’t think of a single wish to make as he blows out his candles. A bachelor\, surrounded by married friends\, Robert is uncertain whether he should simply be happy with his lot or should wish for his own romantic partner. Over a series of dinner parties\, first dates\, and conversations\, Robert attempts to understand the pros and cons of marriage from his diverse and frequently hilarious friends and begins to make sense of his own persistent bachelorhood. \nThe Roles:  Stage ages a guide.\nRobert: Role already cast. The story’s protagonist\, a keen observer who appears to be happy – the one in his circle still single. Terrified of marriage\, but fears loneliness.\nCouple 1\n• Sarah: (30s-40s) – mover – mezzo-soprano\, alto. Harry’s hypercritical wife. She is an avid learner of karate and tends to overeat. Open\, accepting and loving.\n• Harry :(30s-40s) – mover – baritone – Sarah’s husband. He is a recovering alcoholic. Believes the advantages of marriage outweigh the disadvantages. One of Bobby’s closest friends.\nCouple 2\n• Susan: (20s to 30s) – non-dancer – soprano – A delicate and gracious southern belle. Peter’s wife and ex-wife. Motherly in her affections towards Robert. One of Robert’s ex-girlfriends\,\n• Peter: (25-35) – mover – baritone – is one of Bobby’s closest friends and is married to Sarah – formerly Ivy League. The perfect husband and ex-husband. He is very liberal in his view of relationships. Possibly gay and closeted.\nCouple 3\nJenny: (30-45) – mover – soprano – quietly manipulative\, simultaneously square and wise. Loves her husband\, David\, and will indulge him from time to time.\nDavid: (30 – 45) – non-dancer – high baritone – Jenny’s husband; relaxed and always in control. Believes a man should be married and that the sacrifice of freedom is worth what you get in return.\nCouple 4\nAmy: (25-40) – non-dancer – alto\, A frantic neurotic Catholic\, engaged to Paul but terrified of marriage. After a mental breakdown\, she finally realizes that Paul is\, in fact\, her soulmate.\nPaul: (25-40s) – mover – tenor. Amy’s Jewish fiancé. Patient with her neurotic nature. Fully commits to the idea of marriage and encourages Robert to do the same.\nCouple 5\nJoanne: Role already cast.\nLarry: (45-65) – mover – high baritone Joanne’s third husband. Stoic and centred but has moments of goofiness. Stoic – indulges his wife’s behaviour but knows when to put his foot down. Loves Joanne with all her faults.\nThe Girlfriends\n• Marta: 20s-30s) – mover – mezzo-soprano – girlfriend of Robert’s. Intensely modern\, wild\, extravert\, seeking adventure and excitement in the city. She’s attractive\, charismatic\, smart\, and strong.\n• Kathy: (30s to 40s) – dancer – mezzo-soprano A former girlfriend of Robert’s\, now considered a good friend. She plans to leave the city for a life of domesticity. Sweet and loving. “The girl next door” type. Would have been the ideal wife.\n• April: (20s-30s) – mover – mezzo-soprano – a flight attendant and one of Robert’s girlfriends who came to New York to live in Radio City. Ditzy and adorable. \nThe Team: Therry’s fabulous production team includes award-winners David Sinclair (director) and Rodney Hrvatin (musical director) with choreographer Linda Lawson. \nThe Season: The Arts Theatre:  7th-11th and 14th-17th June 2022 at 7.30 pm. Matinees first weekend Saturday and Sunday at 3 pm. No performance on Saturday evening\, 10th June. Second weekend matinee is Saturday at 2 pm. \nThe Audition: \nMusic – Our musical director requests you sing a Sondheim song (bring sheet music please) – not necessarily from this show. \nDance – Some roles require no dancing\, some specify being a ‘mover’ – some dance – and others require trained dancing (no tap). If you are a dancer of any standard\, and wish to be considered for one of the ‘mover’ of ‘dancer’ roles\, please book a time on\, or either side of\, the hour (for instance\, 10.45am\, 11 am\, 11.15 am) and don’t forget to bring suitable footwear.

SUMMARY:A Midsummer Night's Dream
DESCRIPTION:Written By:         William Shakespeare \nDirectors:            Elise Hall & Hope Meffle \nSynopsis:             Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a romantic comedy play that takes place in a forest inhabited by fairies. The play has four main plots that revolve around the conflicts between the fairy King and Queen\, the romantic troubles among four young lovers\, the comical performances by a group of amateur actors\, and the transformation of Bottom the weaver into an ass. All these plots are interconnected by the central theme of love and its complexities. The play is known for its memorable characters\, including Puck\, the mischievous fairy\, and the mortal lovers Hermia\, Helena\, Lysander\, and Demetrius. \nPlease note there are no ‘lead’ roles\, as A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a strong ensemble play. Certain roles\, such as Oberon and Titania\, and the Four Lovers require more speaking than roles such as the Mechanicals\, but this will be made clear to auditionees at Info Night. We have also split the characters into two sections—the Human Court and the Fairy Court—and organised those two sections into smaller sub-categories. This is mainly for rehearsal organisation\, as the sub-categories are mostly on-stage at the same time. \nRole Name:  Theseus     Duke of Athens\, set to marry Hippolyta. SUMMARY:Dracula
DESCRIPTION:Blackwood Players will be producing ‘Dracula’ directly from the Balderston script from 1927. This script is an adaptation of the earlier script by Deane which adapted the novel faithfully. The Balderstone script makes several key changes. Set in 1927\, the play mostly takes place in Dr Seward’s Asylum. Dr Seward’s daughter\, Lucy\, is deathly ill\, suffering from a strange wasting disease unknown to medical science. Dr Seward is attended by Johnathan Harker\, whose fiancée Mina succumbed to the same disease some weeks earlier. Their plight earns them the sympathy of their neighbour\, the new owner of Carfax Abbey\, the mysterious Dracula from Eastern Europe. An inmate of the Asylum\, Renfield\, claims to know what is going on but will not divulge what he knows. In desperation Dr Seward turns to his old teacher\, Dr Van Helsing\, who surmises that all is not as it seems… \nThe show will be played straight and is designed as a horror piece to disturb an audience. It is neither a comedy nor a parody. While there will be no outright violence shown on stage there will be shadow-play showing murder etc. \nSome characters may be gender swapped for the right actor. The casting will be ‘colourblind’ and performers of all backgrounds and cultures are encouraged to audition. \nROLES \nDracula:  A vampire. Also a stranger in a strange land\, an ancient supernatural terror in a modern era. Must be imposing with good stage presence. (Male\, but may be gender swapped for the right actor. Older actor preferred.) \nJohnathan Harker:  The stereotypical ‘good guy’\, who seeks revenge for the death of his fiancée but is intimidated by the supernatural. (Male 20s) \nDr Seward:  A scientist\, and a firm believer in the rational. (Male\, but may be gender swapped for the right actor. Older actor preferred.) \nAbraham van Helsing:  An outsider\, an almost mystic character. On the side of the good guys\, but stands alone and aloof. Needs strong stage presence. (Older actor preferred.) \nRenfield:  A lunatic\, and a constant source of trouble for Dr Seward. Violent and unpredictable to the point of being dangerous to himself and others. A good role for a character actor. Good physicality required. (Male\, but may be gender swapped for the right actor\, any age.) \nLucy:  Dr Seward’s daughter. A good girl under siege by forces beyond her control. Normally headstrong and struggling with the powerlessness she feels. (Female 20s.) \nMaid:  Confidante of Lucy\, and sometimes her only protector. (Female\, any age.) \nAttendant:  Unimaginative\, but knows how to keep the inmates in line. Has a sadistic streak and relishes using more force than necessary. (Male\, any age.) \nTo book an audition please contact us on our email address blackwood.players@gmail.com\, with what part you are interested in\, so we can email you the audition package and a copy of the script. \nRehearsals will commence on Sunday 16th July. \nAll rehearsals will be Tuesday nights from 7.30pm – 10.00pm and Sunday afternoons from 2pm – 5.00pm\, sometimes Sunday evenings from 6.00pm – 9.30pm. \nDates of Performances. \nFriday 27th October 2023 \nSaturday 28th October 2023 \nTuesday 31st October “Halloween Night” \nFriday 3rd November 2023 \nSaturday 4th November 2023 \nFriday 10th November 2023 \nSaturday 11th November 2023 \nAll shows commence at 8pm.

SUMMARY:Of Good Stock
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Kym Clayton \n\n\n\nThe three Stockton sisters (Jess\, Amy and Celia) are witty\, brilliant\, beautiful\, and dysfunctional. When their father\, legendary novelist Mick Stockton died\, he left his three daughters a house in Cape Cod\, control over his books\, and a whole lot of issues. He was a Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist who had many affairs\, and their mother died young\, and it’s left them all pretty messed up. It’s Jess’s 41st birthday and she and her husband Fred have invited her younger sisters to their house on Cape Cod to celebrate. It’s an important milestone for Jess: she’s surpassing the age of her mother\, who died from cancer years ago. Amy is joined by her fiancé\, Josh. Celia\, the youngest\, brings Hunter\, her boyfriend. Their reunion ignites passions\, humour\, and wildly unanticipated upheavals. The men struggle to be a part of this elusive family’s legacy. Of Good Stock is a raw\, poignant\, and hilarious look at the fun and dysfunction of that thing we call family. \nReviews\n“Smoothly paced\, occasionally touching\, and … as comforting as a quart of mint chocolate chip ice cream\, eaten straight from the container.”—The New York Times\n“The reunion\, oiled with scotch\, leads to upsetting revelations\, the airing of grievances\, clumsy tendernesses\, profane screams and forgiving ruminations that volley across the stage in a zany\, often very funny cacophony … Ross’s characters are drawn with assurance\, wit and gentle mockery — we definitely have met these people …”—Los Angeles Times\n“Laugh-out-loud funny…relatable and thoroughly entertaining.”—Entertainment Weekly\n“Ross displays a flair for writing sharp\, funny dialogue.” —Hollywood Reporter\n“An engrossing mix of humour and heart. Ross’s three sisters strike a fine balance between the comfortingly recognizable and enchantingly fresh.” —TheaterMania.com. \nRoles: \nAmy – female\, stage age mid-30s – middle sister (271 cues) \nCelia – female\, stage age late-20s\, early 30s – younger sister (370 cues) \nFred – male\, stage age early to mid-40s – Jess’ husband – (363 cues) \nJosh – male\, stage age mid-30s – Amy’s fiancé – (108 cues\, appears in Act 1 only) \nHunter – male\, stage age lat 20s\, early 30s – Celia’s boyfriend (184 cues) \nAudition contact :\nPlease email Director Kym Clayton ackc1@optusnet.com.au to register for the audition. The audition will include reading/moving excerpts from the play\, with relevant pages emailed to you several days prior to the audition once you have registered. \nRehearsal day/times/ venue :\n* Tuesdays & Thursdays 7.00-9.30pm\, Sundays 1.00-5.00pm\, although there may be some variation to dates and times.\n* First rehearsal Sunday 18 February 2024\, or thereabouts. Barrie\, with songs and dances\, written by Tom Whalley \nAll children\, except one\, grow up… except Peter Pan\, who is on the hunt for his pesky shadow\, Peter Pan meets the Darling children in their Nursery. With a sprinkling of fairy dust\, Wendy\, John and Michael leave Nana the Dog behind on a flight to Neverland – a magical place home to the Lost boys\, Mermaids\, Indians and the most villainous pirate of them all; Captain Hook! With Mrs Starkey and her bumbling son Smee by his side\, Hook seeks revenge against Peter Pan who fed his left hand to a tick-tocking crocodile hungry for the rest of him. Will the boy who never grew-up rid Neverland of Captain Hook forever? Will the Darlings find their way home to London? \nFind out in this swashbuckling pantomime that will have you ‘hooked’! \nPeter Pan – Peter is a clever\, adventurous and confident leader of the Lost Boys. Lady Starkey is one of the pirates and mother of Smee. Both roles need to be comical. Able to sing and dance. (Male 40+) \nNana – Nana is the nursemaid dog\, a non-speaking role\, just WOOF! Must be comfortable using their body movements to represent the animal. Will be doubled up into other characters. (Female 15 – 18yrs) \nSmee – Smee is the bumbling\, comical pirate\, who is Captain Hook’s right-hand man\, son of Lady Starkey. Able to sing and dance and interact with the audience. SUMMARY:White Horse Inn
DESCRIPTION:SYNOPSIS\nHead waiters of the White Horse Inn have found that to fall in love with the attractive young widow who owns the establishment is a swift and certain route to dismissal. Yet none have been able to resist Josepha; least of all Leopold\, the present incumbent. She\, however\, pines for Valentine Sutton\, a regular visitor from England\, and is resolutely blind to all the evidence that his thoughts for her are no more than warm friendship. Sub-plots abound as Smith and Grinkle discover they are hated business rivals\, Sutton (who is Smith’s solicitor) falls in love with Ottoline\, and Smith with Gretel\, while Leopold repeatedly threatens to resign and wish them all a last “Good-bye!”. The subsequent arrival of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor serves at first only to add to the acrimonious chaos\, but finally his kindly understanding and wisdom do much to bring about the statutory happy ending.\n\nCast required:\nJosepha Vogelhuber – Proprietress of “The White Horse Inn” \, Mezzo-soprano. SUMMARY:The Explorers Club
DESCRIPTION:Written By: Nell Benjamin \nCreative Team: Director: Emily Currie \n\nLondon\, 1879. The prestigious Explorers Club is in crisis: their acting president wants to admit a woman\, and their bartender is terrible. True\, this woman is brilliant\, beautiful\, and has discovered a legendary Lost City\, but the decision to let in a woman could shake the very foundations of the British Empire\, and how do you make such a decision without a decent drink? \nThe play\, written in 2013\, paints a satirical picture of 1880s science and exploration in a farcical setting. Emily’s ‘vision’ for the play is in the tradition of a farce. Extraordinary statements and actions that come thick and fast\, played straight for comedy. \nThe play contains basic choreographed physical movement (not dance) for most characters. \nAudience: Aimed at adults\, the play is suitable for over 12 yrs and families to attend (PG minimal foul language)\, comical violence\, and alcohol consumption used for slapstick. \n  \nAudition Information: www.stirlingplayers@sct.org.au \n\n\n\nAudition Information #:0\n\n\nDate:\n30/09/2023\n\n\nTime From – Time to:\n1.00 – 4.00pm\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:0\n\n\nRole Name:\nLucius Fretway (age 40-60)\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n40+\n\n\nRole Information:\nBotanist – gentle and thoughtful\, a romantic at heart (44 pages)\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:1\n\n\nRole Name:\nPhyllida Spotte-Hume (age 40-60) / Countess Glamorgan (double with Phyllida)\n\n\nGender:\nFemale\n\n\nStage Age:\n40+\n\n\nRole Information:\nPhyllida: Anthropologist – spry\, quick witted\, open and flexible (25 Pages)\nCountess: Twin of Phyllida – Entitled\, Posh\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:2\n\n\nRole Name:\nHarry Percy\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n30s\n\n\nRole Information:\nExplorer – cad and not a thinker (39 pages)\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:3\n\n\nRole Name:\nProfessor Cope (age 30-60)\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n30+\n\n\nRole Information:\nHerpetologist – Sincere\, happy to be invited\, loyal (33 pages)\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:4\n\n\nRole Name:\nProfessor Walling (age 30-60)\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n30+\n\n\nRole Information:\nZoologist – Sensitive\, cheerful\, loyal and sweet (34 pages)\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:5\n\n\nRole Name:\nLuigi (any age over 18)\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n18+\n\n\nRole Information:\nNaKong Tribesman – inquisitive\, optimistic\, agile (33 pages)\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:6\n\n\nRole Name:\nProfessor Slone (age 40-70)\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n40+\n\n\nRole Information:\nArcheo-theologist – Serious\, straight-laced (39 pages)\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:7\n\n\nRole Name:\nSir Humphries (any age over 18)\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n18+\n\n\nRole Information:\nPrivate Secretary to Queen – Austere\, intimidating (18 pages)\n\n\nCharacter Descriptions #:8\n\n\nRole Name:\nBeebe & Irish Assassin (double with Beebe) (any age over 18)\n\n\nGender:\nMale\n\n\nStage Age:\n18+\n\n\nRole Information:\nBeebe: Explorer – Intense\, quick (7 pages)\n\n\n\n\nMore Information at: www.stirlingplayers.sct.org.au\nFurther information can be obtained from the Director\, Emily Currie at Emily.M.Currie@gmail.com. \n\nContact: John Graham\ncontactstirlingplayers@gmail.com\n0404 555 808
