About the Show
“Ain’t We Got Fun” is a light-hearted piece about a night at a classic 1920s American Speakeasy (an illicit establishment that sells alcohol beverages). It is a character-driven comedy that touches on some of the issues of the time and so has elements of pathos as well as a lot of laughs. It is full of the frenzied dancing, crazy singing and relentless pursuit of pleasure that defined the Roaring Twenties, but behind the façade of foolish flappers and shady gangsters are people with hopes and dreams.
As the Speakeasy patrons, the audience becomes part of the story and can experience a tiny slice of a fantastic period of history – “the war is over – time to cut a rug”.
This show is being co-directed by Sue Oldknow and Michelle Maclean.
