Arguably Oscar Wilde’s most brilliant tour de force “Earnest” satirizes the British upper class with its quick wit, absurd situations, and impeccable timing. It is a play about many things. Identity, lust, control, gender, class and hypocrisy are just some of the themes Wilde touches upon and they are as relevant today as they were in 1895. This witty and buoyant comedy of manners was first performed in London's St. James' Theatre on February 14, 1895.
